Guess?
...and I am hooked! Damn that was fun. For a first time, using a colleagues 12GA, I hit 22/40. I am also drawn to the cost. Considerably cheap... considering most of my shooting involves milsurps!

Cheap? Wait till you go price that new O/U you have to have. And the price of shells keeps going up & up. Trap is loads of fun but it is by no means cheap.

When you drive 2 hours to your place of shooting, shoot 100-250 rounds a day, go through a box of clays, and then drive home it doesn't seem cheap to me. But I sure do love it.

Now that i own a shotgun, i definitely would love to try skeet and trap. Just gotta check when they do that at the club.

Actually I think that Trap is one of the most expensive shooting sports, a good trap gun, good ammo(and it doesn't pay to reload), lets summarize: a good couple of hours of practice, 5 boxes of shells at $7/box= $35, 5 rounds trap @$4/round=$20, Trap gun $2500+.....I don't know how much this adds up to but, costly for 2 hrs of shooting......Don't get me wrong, I like shooting trap more then any other target shooting, but cheap, it ain't!

I'm practically bankrupt and I only shot 4000 targets last year (3 rds per week average - over a $1000 in shells and $500 in targets)

There's guys at my club that easily shoot 4x that.

The club I shoot at is very relaxed and laid back. No one is out to become an expert. Most guys are hunters who wanted a bit of off season practice. A round is $3.00. The club membership is only $30 per year , This gives access to trap, archery , pistol and rifle ranges as well as other club activities such as trophy presentations, a pheasant release deal etc. The rifle range is roofed, has concrete benches and is 200 yards long. I am lucky in that it is only 8 miles from my door.
Trap is Wed night and most guys shoot 2 maybe 3 rounds. In the early fall there is a 100 bird club shoot off for those who have shot at least 3 nights through the summer. Just last week we replaced the old Western thrower with a new PAT machine.

If one considers the expenses to play golf then trap aint so bad. My costs are just slightly over $20 per week. It makes an interesting night as shooters take turns scoring and operating the hand control. A member who shoots at another local club informed us that the voice activated feature won't work in our place. Seems a certain 4 letter word often uttered after a miss would launch the next guys target. Actually there is a lot of ribbing and such on the line as no one is overly competitive. A few guys will shoot around a 23 or 24 average with enough 25's to keep us interested.

Yup, i agree with you murf. but the human mind being what it is, guys generally start to buy nicer ( read more expensive!) guns and stuff.

When I am shooting skeet and trap regularly, I generally shoot 125 - birds a weekend - that adds up in time.

I hate to get buried by all the O/U fans but all you really need to shoot all clay sports is a Beretta 391.

There are many trap shooters using 870s and Model 12s for trap even some skeeters too.

Trap is a gateway drug. The real addiction is sporting clays.

WOW...what a response! :D

I guess what I meant by cheap was, $20 got me the clays/round of shooting and I spent $26 for 100 shells, of which I only used 40. In comparison, to shoot the M14 or the Garand, I spend $15 to get in to the range, then I usually shoot around 40-60 rounds each, which can run me anywhere from $19 to $23 per box of 20.

I guess what I liked the best was competeing with other shooters and seeing the results of ones shooting ability instantly.

Had our first regular shoot of the season here in Rocky Mtn House and Tuesday night. Hauled out Gido's M12 16ga. Ful chock sure makes her reach waaaay out there. Now I've gotta find me some cheap 16ga trap loads (if they exist)
