It sure looks that way to me. Brand new... unfired ar15 barrel. Sorry about the crappy pic, best I could do. It looks like a gouge to me... doesn't budge when a cleaning rod/brush runs by it (can definitely feel some extra resistance as it passes though).

I don't even know how something like this happens in a new, unfired, uncleaned modern stainless barrel. Any ideas? How brutally will this affect accuracy? Should I even try shooting it? The rest of the upper looks fantastic... virgin.

Looks like a burr on the gas port.
I'd try and remove the larger flap and just run a bunch of ammo through it after, but that's just me.

Yes, its definitely around the gas port... forgot to specify that.

How would you go about trying to clear out the burr by hand. I will try and shoot it today and see how the gun cycles. Anyone know how much a new 7.5" barrel is?:(

Shoot it and forget about it.

It's a burr from the drilling of the gas port. That would usually be gone up the port with the first test fire. It's unusual to see a barrel that hasn't been test fired.

Would look better if the gas port wasn't drilled through the lands.

Who made it?

Krieger AR barrels are drilled in the GROOVES and are burr-free; we'd send back any barrel that looked like that one. Attention to detail and planning I guess.

Went to the range yesterday and put 100 rounds through it. Bore seems clean as a whistle now however, I noticed that after twenty rounds or so the reliablity of cycling the action dropped. Every third mag or so the brass would eject and the bolt would close but without chambering the next cartridge.

Should I be taking apart the gas tube to check for a small blockage or just keep shooting to blow and obstructions clear.

Very satisfied with the accuracy though. 7.5" barrel getting semi regular hits on the 200m gong. No complaints considering I was using a 1x red-dot.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll post any further developments if they arise.

A tight fitting bronze brush may have pushed it out. 100 rounds seems to have done the job.

Have a peek for small pieces of metal in the gas system, better safe than sorry

Ya... I'm sure that would be prudent. Not too familiar with AR rifles... what other things should I be looking for as contributing factors? You know what... nevermind when I have some time I'll do a search and see what I can track down. I'll start with the gas system and just make sure its clear. Thanks for the heads-up.
