Tobin Proof Marks **PIC UP**

Sharptail,
Tobin #1771x, #1773x,#1885x, #1923x all have the "BTP" markings on both barrels. Tobin #1923x does not have "Pat.May 23-93" on the watertable and has no address but #1949x has an address but no "pat.May 23-93" on the WT.

Interesting thread! Nice to see some fellow Tobin owners out there too. Mine is a 12ga ser #164** and it has no barrel markings whatsoever and only the patent marking on the reciever. Mine says Woodstock Ont on it too.

Anybody have a 16ga?

I have a 16 gauge, sn#190XX, Fluid-Steel-Krupp-Essen on each barrel with a faint BB or BR mark following. The lockplate shows Tobin Arms Mfg Co Ltd, Makers, Woodstock Ont Canada.Unfortunately the butt stock has been replaced years ago by a local gunsmith, no engraving. Mine though looks like the shotgun in the previous pictures. Thanks for the history lesson to go with my grandfathers shotgunas this made it more valuable to me...Bob

Oh, Pat May 28-??, No Patents Pending

hmmm, I may have a line on one. Without going into specifics because I don't have them, what is the ballpark price we are talking about?

The one I was referring to was at a gun show and the asking price was $900 (if I recall correctly) It was a nice gun but was a little steep IMO...there were no takers...

Well, so far no luck. I wrote to David Noreen, who has published more articles on Tobin than anyone else that I know of, and asked about the mark. His response was:

Sorry, but I don't have a clue on that barrel marking.

He did give me the name of another fellow who has done research into the markings of tube suppliers to the double gun trade. I will inquire forthwith.

So far, it looks like we have a real mystery on our hands! Thanks to all who have responded with information, you never know which little bit will provide the key to the answer.
