Who shoots IPSC with wheel guns?

Thinking of getting into IPSC , but I am a die hard wheel gun guy.
Not interested at all in semi autos.
My question to those that do it, is what is the preffered revolver and caliber for a class that is basiclly stock, no mods other than a bit of tuning, and how much can I expect to spend on a rig, all up?

I just outfitted the kid , so I have a bit of an idea what all the ghost stuff costs.....

My son got lots of stuff FAST from Double tap, and i was thinking of phoning them today, but don't know if they have revolver stuff....

625 is .45 ACP ( 610 is 10 mm/40 s&W)

lots of wheelgun IPSC shooters in ON

I got my moonclips and bladetech moonclip holders from W w w.cactustactical.com they ship to Canada and are quite reasonable pricewise.( I'm sure there are Canadian bladetech suppliers too) I started with a CR speed holster but later switched to a speedsec holster - both are good
 
When I was at the Area 8 this past weekend, I was squadded with 2 revolver shooters. They had a fantastic new system for holding moon clips, far superior to the moon clip holders that are being sold by Bladetech. It basically consisted of a platform, that had 4 metal cylinders sticking up from it. Each moonclip just slides down the cylinder and can be stacked, so you end up being able to carry 8 moonclips. I'll see if I can find a link/picture, but if I was shooting revolver, that's definitely the way I would go.

Cat, the truly competitive gun is the 625 or 610, but you can shoot whatever you have. The next most used gun is the 586 machined to accept full moonclips. The rules allow only a few small modifications such as machining for moonclips;changing calibres or adding barrel weights etc is not allowed.
There are a few in IPSC BC that shoot revolver and have a blast.

It's 4" S&W 610 in a CR Speed WSM II holster and Blade-Tech moon clip holders all on a CR Speed belt.

The 610 is a 10mm and can also shoot 40 S&W. I expect Dragoon is shooting 40 since brass is cheaper and shorter and does the job for Major.
Very nice setup BTW Dragoon!.
I would like a 610, but am financially limited to using my S&W 19 with 38 sp loads.

I use a 1941 Colt Police Positive .38 S&W with a 4 1/2" barrel and a duty holster for IDPA occasionally to keep my hand in...even with speed loaders I'm still half as fast as with a semi-auto.

There are three of us in the Kingston area that shoot 625's, 5 inch 45ACP and one who shoots a 610 in 40 S&W. There are at least two more regular wheelgunners in the Burlington area.

What does it cost??? Finding a 625 is difficult. 1. You can expect to pay $700 and up for a used one. 2.Then the inner and outer belts. Cost about $250.00 3.Moonclips, I have some from Dillion and some from Brownells. Forgot the price, about 10 for $10.00 4.For holding my moonclips I have a speed loader that fits onto my outer belt and has 4 posts. I can put two moonclips on each post. Cost about $100 from Bob Perdue in Virginia. 5.Holster or something to hold your gun on your belt, ie CR Speed or a Ghost, $250-$300.
Plus a carrying bag/case for your gun and one for our ammo. Shooting glasses, ear protection, etc.
Then you will probably get into reloading. Press, brass, powder, bullets, primers, etc.
This is some of the basics. I am sure I have missed something.

To add to the "bells and whistles" of revolver shooting, if you end up using moon clips, you will need the following to make your life easier, IF... you will be shooting in IPSC competition.
I find that a De-mooner and re-mooner are necessity when using moonclips especially during winter time :) Also, you will eventually need a Moon clip gauge. :D

There is a Performance Center 625 for sale right now in the EE Section. I would love to buy that baby had I not have already a 625. <hint>

I'm toying with the idea of using my 4" Model 19 (with 130-135 PF .38 Spl loads in Comp III speed loaders) in Production Division......it would be interestng to see how it would stack up against semi-autos! Although it would be a safe bet that I wouldn't win, I'm quite confident I wouldn't come in last either.

I managed 2nd at the 2006 IPSC BC Provincials (ADDED - In Revolver Standard) using an untuned 5" 629 Classic N-Frame in 44 special and HKS speedloaders. I just don't have the $$ to shell out for a 625 or 610 so I 'upgraded' to the 19 now with Comp IIs. In practice they load very quickly, although not as fast as moonclips. I still have to translate that reload speed to matches. :rolleyes:

Picked up a 625 in 45ACP today !:dancingbanana:
clips come with the gun, and I am going to get a ghost holster and belt, etc for it as well.
Who has the best prices for that stuff?

Everything else like transport boxes, gear bags, that sort of stuff I have , as well as a dillon 550 with dies already to go.
