270wsm is it to good to be true?

Of the 3 270 wsm's I owned I just could not get them to group like my standard .270, maybe I just had bad luck. I tried all sorts of powder and used 130 and 140 gr. premium bullets.
Maybe I will strike it lucky if I go for gun #4, Im still set up to load and have lots of brass and bullets..hmmm
I liked the round but I think we're all being suckered into this high velocity hype.....I guess there's nothing wrong with owning a number of rifles though:D

Exactly... 17$ versus 30$ a box is no big deal I dont use that rifle at the range much.. its meant for hunting.... I'll shoot a box at the range now and again with it... but nothing high volume.

How much money are you really saving though having to buy all the materials and reloading yourself? .. i know i know.. research... and i shall.

You can save a significant amount. If you actually shoot. And quite frankly I think if you want to hunt, you should practice with your rifle regularly. And not just off the bench. Can you hit a pie plate off-hand at 100 yards? Have you tried various field positions (kneeling, sitting and prone) at 200 yards? Have you practiced in windy conditions? Have you placed targets at various unknown distances and elevations to see if you are on target?

This is a good way to learn about your limitations and will help you to make a clean kill.

Can you hit a pie plate off-hand at 100 yards? yes, probly 18-19 out of 20 times...

Have you tried various field positions (kneeling, sitting and prone) at 200 yards? yes... some better than others though.. kneeling being my worst.

Have you practiced in windy conditions? not to any significance no.. :(

Have you placed targets at various unknown distances and elevations to see if you are on target? yes but i should practice this much more... good point

I know I should shoot more with the gun I hunt with than I do.

I guess for me I always like to picture my shooting done in the wide open versus shooting from a line at a range.

I wish I had a good place near me to jsut be able to randomly go out and shoot without being bothered by people or worry about police giving me a hard time. I mean I have 25 acres in Niagara but its not enough to do that kind of thing with people living in all kinds of directions, even if I were to shoot agaisnt a back stop.

I think if I had such a place I'd shoot that rifle 10 times more than I do right now.

thanks for all the info

Thanks for the info everyone.
I like the numbers the 270 wsm puts up, I would proubally only shoot 200 rounds a year from the 270. I have a 308 right now that I like to shoot a lot. I want to start reloading. and I think this would be a fun cal to play with.

Thanks again Brad

Mogul Pro - I didn't mean to call you out on those questions - they were just general statements!

But good for you that you practice, and I understand the problems with not having a place to shoot. I really enjoy "playing" with a good quality .22 as well. For example trying to shoot the stems of dandelions offhand, at various distances. I find that it is good practice, and really helps with my trigger control.

No no no I wasnt offended or anything... I'm "new" just wanted to give you a little insight to where I was comin from whats all.

I'm also only 23... hope to have many many years of shooting ahead of me and will do what I can to improve each year. :)
