xcr falling apart

Jesus, guys. I just laid down my credit card to buy an XCR, but I have until tomorrow to back out. It's my first black rifle and I need all the advice I can get. Should I go ahead with it?

Don't do anything you'll regret. This type of purchase is a purely personal decision. If you want it real bad, you'll be sorry you didn't by it. If you don't want it really, really bad, you'll be sorry you did. It's a cool rifle, but its doubtful that it will ever be one you can rely on.

Remember one thing: there is always another deal, another purchase, another option around the corner.

you'll be fine. Just know what you are getting into before you buy. I did, and have no regrets. I hate restricteds. The first 300 rounds will suck. If you can, give the rifle and 300 rounds to someone else, and ask them to burn it in. After that, everything will be smooth, and there will be no jams. At this time, you will need to loctite, or peen the extractor, and bolt release screws. Then you are good to go. This is all in the user's manual BTW.

I have about 1500 through mine after the 300 rnd break in. Not one jam.

HK-SL8..... And your good to go. Non-Res. It works and only a few bucks more.

now dont y'all bring them plastic guns round here.

Piston driven too.. now an AR compatible trigger housing is available making the stock issue a mout point. I justy got my SL8, ran flaaaaawlessly for 2 sighting sessions and 1 service rifle match >300 rounds fired.

I Loooooooooooove my XCR. One small bolt face problem on an early model (since factory fixed). Very good quality build. I Say go for it!

I've been told the SL-8 can crack if dry fired, and that the HOD is iffy

It can crack if you dry fire it without the bolt in.

And it cracks just in front of the hammer, on the trigger group. Its purely cosmetic, it wont hurt the rifle at all.

The bolt hold open IS iffy, one of the things i dont like about it... You get a 50/50 ratio of people that it works for, and doesn't work for. Apparently it needs very strong mag springs to work.

Thanks, guys. I cancelled my order. Two thousand dollars is too much for something that isn't proven.

I'm interested in a black rifle, restricted or not, that will be completely reliable. I'm willing to spend what it takes to get it. Any suggestions?

I've had a hard-on for a Lahti ever since reading a magazine article on it.
I finally got to fire one a couple of weekends ago at the Albany OR full auto shoot I went to. $15 per dound

Wait to see how much they are and if the hk ar's end up being non restricted.

Otherwise go for an SL8

Picked up an SL8 last month and just love it so I took my name off the XCR list. Either way you end up with a non-restrict black gun and isn't that everyone really wants...Bob

It was very common for the barrels on the M96 to go flying down range if they were not seated properly. It is a known fact. The bolt is forcibly unlocked. Remember, the bolt doesn't have to move if the barrel can.

It is biased. I just paid $2400 for this rifle, that was supposed to be a contender for the SCAR program, it better be built like a $2400 special forces rifle! Do you think Johhny Commando wants to take apart and Loctite his rifle before he goes killing terrorists? There is a reason they failed the competition with flying colors.

The AR180B, for example, is sold for $1000 and is marketed is a civilian sporting rifle, so it gets more leeway. Even then, it's still built better, in my opinion. You slap a metal lower on it and you have an amazing rifle design.

Wow, what a load of fecal matter. The AR180B better? wow.

The XCR failed the Scar trials because of the lack of a blank firing adapter. Keep drinking the 180B koolaid, with your plastic lowered super gun.

YEE HAW THAT THERE PLASTIC LOWER GUN! WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO GOOD OLD IRON?

I mean honestly do these idiots really want use using a gun with a PLASTIC lower? what if i have to....ummm......attach a magnet to it?

Actually according to Pat Rogers, Johnny Commando should and does take his rifle apart and loc-tite anything that might, maybe, one day, on occaision become loose, before going off to kill terrorists. If it's tight it should be Loc-tite, if it's adjustable it should be reference marked, if it's empty load it, and if you're not shooting - move!
