Hey just got a book from Paladin Press on how to build the big bore 50 does anybody know of a good source of tool steel in Canada that will make small orders up
I am going to make up a small er version to shoot the 17 hmr to start with
From the sublime to the rediculis hugh!

Too bad there isn't a source for Canadian made .50 recievers? All I have is a new .50BMG barrel and 2500 rds of Lake City ammo. Id like one someday but can't afford prices on factory built .50 rifles. It shouldn't cost too much to get the barrel turned down and installed on a reciever?

Metal Supermarkets will get you any non-precious metal you need in almost any shape and form, but the price may be a bit frustrating. I've been happy with them so far.

Sell 2000 rounds of that ammo (2000 rounds @ $6 a round = $12,000) and you can afford just about any of the off the shelf or even the custom made 50s and still have a few grand left for a quality scope.

Lots of guys have the M2 barrels, but few can do anything with them. If the barrel is chrome lined, it is murder on the chamber reamer. Few of the gunbuilders will use a surplus barrel. I had prairie gun works rebarrel a Boys rifle using a brand new 50 cal M2 barrel, back in the days when they had time for that kind of work.

Goto ww w.homegunsmith.com join the forum there. Lots of discussion and builds of all kinds. If your Paladin press book is the Bill Holmes .50 Cal , they have a discussion and build on it right now and it seems although the design will work there are some errors in the book on some dimensions.

Scrap metal dealer - You can also learn a lot cheaply by playing with cheap rusty .22's. They're premade parts and so allow you to design quickly and test it out without wasting massive amounts of time and money of making large parts just to test an idea.

The only problem you will have is with the chromoly tube. They can get it but you have to buy a length and it isn't cheap! Trust Me;)

We have Barnard GP actions for 50bmg on the shelf.

Can't find them on the website... are they only listed via price list PDF, or are there pictures available?

EDIT: I saw the pricing; my fault for not searching harder. The price list is quite comprehensive.

THAT is an action 3.7kg for the receiver ! Barnard has some of the best target rifle technology on the market. I learned in DCRA shooting that starting with the best contemporary rifle and shooting it for years is much better than buying an earlier good idea that someone else has shot for years.
