I have several BRNO, I would still buy the JW15. A BRNO #1 is 3 or 4 times the price of a JW15.

No they're not.

Unless you're talking about a NIB Brno #1 and those aren't easy to come by. A JW-15 is $179.00 from Marstar. I have several Brno #1's. The cheapest was $250. The most expensive was $450. They seem to average around $350 in VG condition.

Well, you don't get anything for free. I had one of the Norinco M 98 trainer knock offs. Yes, the action is a Brno copy but there is absolutely no comparison in the quality of machining, fit or finish between the two. I had to do a lot of filing, fitting and polishing to get it working properly. The safety couldn't even be put on as delivered. The tangent sight was crudely filed to no true profile, one side was even a lot higher than the other. The striker in the Norc looked like something picked up out of the scrap bin.

I would buy a Savage or Marlin over the Norc any day.

I once purchased a pair of Norinco JW-15's. One wouldn't shoot minute-of-sheet-of-paper at 50 yards (12 to 18 inch groups), and the other was good for a pretty consistent 6 inch group at 50 yards. After seeing those results, I didn't even bother wasting the ammo to see if they would shoot better with different ammo. That was my first and last experience with Norinco firearms. I will also agree with 762shooter - the fit/finish was awful.

On the other hand, I've never seen a Brno or CZ that wouldn't keep em under an inch at 50 yards with darn near any ammo.

I vote thumbs down on Norinco.

have you seen the egyptian copy of the brno? the are well made and use the same clip and have the adjustable sight.

thanks T2T...reading now. :)

edit - interesting read. I had asked that question thinking BRNO was actually still around, when they are not. I understand now. :) can't believe how much cheaper a CZ 452/3 is down in the US tho!

My only experience with the jw15 was I saw a guy who had just bought one up at the range. After firing a box or so through it, he was having trouble with it. When ever he would cycle the bolt to pick up a new round, as soon as he would close the bolt, it would fire. I knew it was a brno copy and I was somewhat familiar with brno's so I suggested that there should be a trigger adjustment screw. We took the action out of the stock and sure enough there was. We adjusted (both ways actually) until we figured out which way it had to go. It worked for about another half box but started shooting on a closed bolt again.
I'm sure there are plenty out there that are trouble free and great shooters but in my experience with norinco firearms, the quality control is hit or miss. If you do buy one, make sure you purchase it from a dealer who will take it back if you get a lemon.
