Decided to order a vertical grip Bell & Carlson stock for my Howa HB .308.

I got it through Stocky's, a wholesaler in Florida, shipped to a US mail drop.
Total cost, including S&H to that point - $245.08

I asked about customer feed back on these and was told it was very positive.
I hope it's a better position stock than the Boyd's thumbhole design which came with the rifle.
 
I just saw the A5 style B&C stock at ATRS a couple of hours ago and it looks like one hell of a stock, especially when you compare it to the price of a McMillan A5. I believe it will go on my next rifle!

If he gets enough Canadian orders, he might consider the $1700 export licence.
His prices are under manufacturer's suggested retail.

I wanted solid olive, but settled for olive/spider web. My other option was black. Anything else would have been a back order.

You pays you money - you makes you choice.
 
Here we go discussing illegal acts again. And then guys wonder why so few dealers bother to bring stuff into this country. I get the permits to legally import these, stock a bunch which costs me money to have them in inventory and then read about guys bragging how they circumvented the laws of 2 countries.
Just think of where the gun owners will be when all they have to choose from is what is offered in the few big box stores that may remain

I don't think they circumvented any Canadian laws yet (I'm assuming the GST was paid). In fact, the purchaser has done nothing wrong other than to, quite foolishly, "out" his supplier. I would not be surprised though to see this change at some point as more and more Canadian businesses lobby for restrictions on individual imports. Regards, Bill.

Nothing illegal??? If he got it sent to a US mail drop how does he get it into Canada?
 
Being as a rifle stock IS considered a "critical firearm part" under ITAR regulations, Canadian law HAS been broken as an IIC was required for the import. US laws were also broken as an export permit was required for the same reason, Stockys apparently does not have exporter status so the State dept could take serious issue with them just as they did with Midway a few years ago for this same sort of thing.

I don't like all the red tape at all, but being an ITAR and CGD registered manufacturer must play by the rules.
It does choke me a bit that so many Canadians are so happy to have any opportunity to screw up the system and help drive nails into the coffins of their local gun shops who support them with info and supplies when all other means fail.
It chokes me more when these same individuals scream blue murder when they get jacked up for their illegal activity and they post whining threads on the various forums about how they were screwed over. Reminds me alot of drug dealers who get caught, it is never their fault...............
 
I wish we could get some of the stuff that our American neighbours can for the price they can... but there's a cost involved in bringing it across the border and its not exactly our local distibuters fault.

When an American merchant illegally ships you a product that requires exportation permits, and you are the recipient of an illegally shipped product, you are as complicit as the merchant. It's just like being the recipient of stolen goods. You as the importer are required to obtain an International Import Certificate. They cost nothing and they are easy to get. If you fail to follow that process, they may not extradite you, but you sure as hell could find yourself having a difficult time traveling-to or flying over the US.

No the mounties may not come knocking on your door, but if that merchant goes down, your name is very likely on the list of customers that illegally obtained his product. I for one am not at all interested in learning what that can lead to.

There are costs associated with obtaining permits, and yes, those get passed on to importers that do things legally. Firearms merchants are hardly the worst example... buy a car or truck lately???

Thanks to one and all for the chastisement and lesson in import/export legalities, especially those who equated my actions with drug smuggling.

I regret having made the error in judgement, I further regret having had the temerity to candidly admit to my 'fox paw', despite knowing how often many do something similar.

Having thought about it, I have decided to cancel the order and pay considerably more through another source.

Now we can all sleep better.
 
Thank God, another potential criminal off the streets. Thanks to the efforts of all those involved this young man is back on the straight and narrow. I know I'll sleep better tonight!

Like I said, I appreciate the comments. I received several pm's and consider myself truly slapped upside the head.
Some were rather self-righteous and sanctimonious, others of a more conciliatory tone in the way of a reality check.

As I told one respondent, I tried a couple of Canadian sources first and got the stock (pardon the pun) answers: "We wish ...", "We'd be happy to order it for you at the mrsp+. How long are you prepared to wait?", "We don't stock that particular model, make, etc.", "We bought when the Canadian dollar was low and are overstocked with high-priced merchandise we can't unload, so we aren't interested in ordering new models ...", etc.

I've regularly ordered items from Buffalo Arms, Shiloh and Brownells without the hassle. In trying to order bullets and other items from a Canadian source, I get referred to an Alberta location for a mail order. There I get a sweet young thing who doesn't understand bullet terminology, doesn't know squat about availability beyond what's on her screen and asks ME for the company's stock # for items.
I'm on dial-up and can't peruse their web site while on the phone. Some of you have had the experience.

Net result - I'm resigned to doing without or paying a premium to get something not quite what I wanted, but it's available from a Canadian source and I don't have to be concerned about drawing attention from the 'stock police'.

Who is this ???? you need to give your head a shake "Canadian's" have the right to do what the f--ck they want to! If that mean going to the US to buy stuff good on them. Nails in the coffins of local gun shops? Guess the local guy better figure out a smarter way to do business. When the big box stores show up like Bass Pro and Cabela's the little local gun shops WSS included will have to take note of prices and get inline. No more of this screw the customer stuff like we get now when we ask to order a black b&c stock at WSS and they ask for 245 dollars. When I can get it out of the US for 145 shipped to my door. Thats a 100$ and I didn't even have to get in my truck and drive the 45km's to local gun shop. Getting caught and crying?? Ok I agree with you there if they ##### they are just sissy men get your act together. Really why would a smart person give any local guy a 100$ more for a stock that is exactly the same as I get US side for 100$ less? Especially since you don't get any great level of customer service in any reasonable amount of time in the City of Calgary? Alberta Tactical Rifle when was the last time you started a $100 dollar bill on Fire? See I figured so..... next time you want to ##### about some one going state side go outside in front of your garage/gun shop and light a $100 bill on fire then come in and post something on CGN about it. Good luck on lighting that 100$ bill on fire. Tell me how it hurts then.
