Antique Collecting Growing

I have been sifting through the EE and noticed that this whole antique thing is really catching on. I remember a year ago you could only ever find one or two antiques for sale at any time...if you were lucky. Now I do a search in the pistol and revolver EE for "antique" and get 28 results. Wow have things ever picked up lately.

My worry is that it might be growing too fast. When there are only a few collectors out there we can generally keep a low profile but if everyone is jumping on the wagon it makes me worried that the Feds might take notice and start changing laws again...
 
Or until some idiot forgets to take his crazy pills and doe's something stupid with a antique gun. i saw a U.S. website the other day that was recommending antique guns to people who are not allowed to buy a gun because of criminal
records or mental illness.thats the kind of thing that will put a end to the antique classification.
 
I used to collect modern millitary peices sold almost all now I collect Antiques to shoot but also as an investment not to nessisarily make money on later but hopefully to break even if I need to sell some off Poeple who had large collections of what are now prohibs. lost alot of there value . I hope to be able to pass on some of my nicer peices to my Kid.Its also nice to own a peice that maybe only 1or 2 others in canada may own,makes for interesting conversations at the range

I myself cannot see the criminal element doing drive bys with a flint lock horse pistol "kidding"

Honestly though I see what your saying. The criminal element uses there guns as a weapon of intimidation AND a status symbol.

These guys like the cheap shiny bling and space tech plastic like fiddy cent and his rag tag band of jollys sing about.

Our antiques take far too much care, time, money and thought to make function.

These noble qualities are lacking in the base criminal element.

In my biast opinion, us law abiding lovers of the past and collectors of antiques will still be under the ban mad feds radar as we generally represent a very small niche.
And shrinking ...as there not making new antiques.

Though I do feel your anxiety at times...My wife and I were talking about our dwindling freedoms the other day and wonder what kind of world our son will live in in the future...
One that looks more and more like a police state born in the mind of that nut bar Karl Marx.

Well if they DECIDE to change things its gona be Tough to Regulate Antiques when theres No Licence or Registration on them.
kinda hard to track and or find out whos got what.

Look even Jolly old England has Perscribed Antiques i know them Limeys:p outbid me on nice guns all the time.
The English dont need any Licence or Registration on most of the same Revolvers we collect.
They cant shoot theres without a ton of paperwork tho, but i bet they got ammo handy!

As far as the Canadian goverment trying to get and or find all our Antiques licenced and registered well
I think they know it will be like hearding Cats :D
 
The thing that keeps me away from the antique revolvers is that the $150.00 piece is suddenly "worth" $1500.00 or more because it is an antique. If the antique status was not there you couldn't give a lot of this stuff away but people are still willing to pay up to $650.00 for broken and worn obscure pieces even if they are missing parts. Luckily antique rifles don't seem to be quite as outrageous in regards to pricing.
 
I don't see antique collecting getting too common, mainly due to the rarity of good antique guns and the prices one has to pay if one find a decent example. There are some exceptions, but I never seem to find them. My idea of a 'cheap' antique is a nice Springfield Trapdoor I recently acquired in 45-70 caliber for $880. However, I doubt that any criminal is going to try to rob a convenience store with a single shot, 107-year old rifle that has a 32 5/8" barrel. I can't even fit the thing in my car without lowering the back seat and shoving it in through the trunk! Still, all of us need to exercise personal responsibility and use discretion.
 
What makes me mad is we all say IF SOME CRIMNAL Did this or that.

BUT really they should throw the punk in Jail for 25 Years and leave us legal gun owners alone.

IF some Baggy pants knuckle dragging looser Broke into some gun owners house and Stole some antique Revolver with ammo and did do something ilegal with it.
Punish him not all of us.

Im sure most of the folks in this group are already gun owners or are responsible enough to handle antiques properly. I guess the worry is exactly what dingus said...or if some young "punk" reads about the antique laws and figures "hey, I can buy a gun without any license or anything" Next we have this punk or one of his buddies buying a beat up 32RF for a few hundred (cause they're not aware of where to buy one of those stolen Glock's) and flashing it around thinking they're "cool". Then we get the press on top of it and the politicians start saying they want to register antiques as well...

...maybe im just being paranoyed. Something like this may never happen but im sure its a thought in the back of most of your minds.

I guess when it comes down to it...even though there are no lic requirements we need to make sure were not selling to that "punk" which may be tough when we're dealing primarily through the web and email.

...Just a few thoughts...
