11-87 vs 1100

No, I haven't owned a 391. I shot one for a month, and seriously considered buying one. It is a fine shotgun, as shootable as an 1100, and gas system is in the long run more rebust than the 11xx systems, as you say.

However, for the many thousands of rounds through my 11-87, I've seen very few breakages - two o-rings, one piston, and a detent spring to be precise. Not bad! When we're talking reliability, I've seen more expensive shotguns perform far less consistently.

Oh, and when Beretta makes the 391 in 28, just PM me. I can always make room for another 1100 in 28 or 410!

Thanks for all the info. I will definitely check out the website MauserMike suggested. I initially chose the Remingtons due to budgetary reasons but if a few more dollars gets me alot more reliability I may have to start saving my pennies.
Thanks again.

I have had them all, the remingtons, the beretta 391 and the super black Eagle II, believe me they all have their problems. If you want you can check for yourself by going onto beretta and benelli forums and read about the problems people are having. Personally I got rid of the Italian shotguns and kept my remingtons 11-87 and 1100. They were more reliable than the others. For the type of money the Italians are charging for their guns they should stick to making pizza cause their guns are not worth it.

Just my opinion.

Can you be a little more specific about the problems you were having?

The only and big problem I found with them was reliability, there were times where they would not eject all loads and tend to jam up with light loads. My remingtons have never jammed up on me, or failed to eject. I dont remember if it was benelli or beretta that I spoke to on the phone but they told me that the firearm should eject all loads after firing 200-300 rounds of Mag loads, I believe I read it in their manual ass well, however this just brings up the price of the gun by another $200.
The recoil was less on the remingtons with the gas operated system which makes it an advantage for follow up shots.
I will say that they were easier to clean than the remingtons but that isnt a big plus for me.
I believe that if you are going to spend like $2000 on a benelli or a Beretta it has to shine next to the remington, and they dont.

That gave me a good chuckle!:D

I have a friend who has had both his Extrema2 and his Beretta 20g back to the shop for repairs after one season, the 20 Gu would cycle anything from the box. The extema stop cycling after about 1000 rounds.

Not to slam berretta at all, when they worked they worked great. For what it is worth, Berretta fixed both of them for free and pretty quick. You won't get that from Big R. but you could also nearly buy another remmy for the price of 1 extrema.

The Beretta 391 is a gas operated gun

Yes the baretta is, but you need to spend the extra 4-500 dollars for the kick off recoil system which looks ugly to me in order to say it really has less recoil than the rem.
I was refering to the benelli before about not being gas operated, instead they got the comfor techs system going.

How does the Beretta "kick off recoil system" look ugly??? It is contained in the stock and you can't even see it.. Have you really even owned a 391?? Or for that matter shot one? You will have to excuse me now my Pizza is getting cold. :)

The stock looks like it is wearing a rubber boot at the end of it which for me it looks ugly, and like I stated before I didnt buy it with this system.

Like this one? :) http://

I have a large collection of 1100's, and 1 11-87, the only difference I have found is the centre of gravity is more forward on the 11-87. So from my experience the 1100 swings better if you are shooting trap, other than that they are very similiar guns.

On a budget, the 1100 or 1187 are great guns. Make sure you get a barrel with interchangeable choke tubes. Most older 1100s are fixed. That would put a serious kink in your versatility factor.

If you have the dough, go for the Beretta AL391. My all around favorite gun. You will notice that you hardly ever see a Beretta 391 on the EE. There is a good reason. Once you try it, you won't ever want to give it up.
