Norinco M4

Funny everyone is so busy talking about the firearms, has anyone thought of the follow up,,, does this mean the chinese may start making and shipping 5.56mm ammo???

I still have a few cases of Norinco 5.56(yellow box) from years ago.
The brass is a little soft for reloading but fairly hot.

They have it... their price is out to lunch. They are complaining about the same issues that North American manufacturers complain about... ever rising base metal costs.

There are also severe issues with respect to carriers... but that can be resolved.

The big issue is price and the pricing they quoted was just not of interest.

They are talking @ $325 US Dollars per thousand FOB China (add freight, brokerage, duty, etc.). That's importer cost... then add a profit for the importer and a profit for the dealers... you can see this is just not realistic.

Hi, Mark, how about type 97? can you guys get some? I'm insterested in type 97 more than the Norinco M4. I'll take one for sure if it's $800 for the type 97.

There are already several companies bringing in the 97's... really don't see us getting involved with those.

Only seen them in ONE place an that is Lever Arms in Vancouver, an they want $1450 for non res, an $1500 for restricted.

$800 for a 97, keep dreaming, until they come in by the hundred I doubt you'll ever see them that low.

Well they would be if they ever arrived, or we had an idea if they really were
coming. A reasonable price wouldn't hurt either.

My understanding from Norico is they're "building a revised verson" with longer barrel (would make it non-Restricted here)... Here is the info they sent me:

Chinese Type 97 rifle improved version by Semi-auto and the caliber of 5.56mm
Type97.jpg

SPECIFICATIONS
Caliber... 5.56mm
Muzzle Velocity... 920m/s (SS109) or 980m/s (M193)
Barrel Length... 490mm
Overall Length... 758mm
Weight... 3.35kg
Capacity... 30rounds
Will be available at the end of the year.
That's when they would be ready to sell them to us... add to that a couple of months for transport to North Amercia... I'm guessing you won't see these until next year sometime and who knows what the price will be... it won't be cheap.

There was no pricing given because they say they won't know their costs until they build them and material costs are increasing too rapidly to give us figures yet.

We are NOT planning to carry these so don't ask... my guess is that Marstar and/or Lever Arms are planning tol bring them in.

Questar makes a very good point though. With raw materials, transport costs, and labour going through the roof the price everyone hoped for may not be possible when these things do get made. Apparently China has shut down export arms production until November so who knows what raw materials will be then. Either way I still think these rifles are "worth" much more than the much quoted $800 price. The quality is very good....If the 97 were produced in north america you could expect XCR or tavor prices.
