rem700 m14 mag conversion FINISHED pics

:D
I think it is a GREAT idea, now you have mags that work in 2 guns. Not only that, but there are M14 mags available EVERYWHERE, and they certainly beat the $100 price tag on the AICS mags, and whatever the HS mags are going for these days.....

Just so there is no confusion..................

You can't simply use the 10 or 20 round M14 mags in this rifle and your M14...................Since the 10/20 round mags are designed for a semi-auto center fire rifle, they must be blocked to no more then 5 rounds .............you can not use an unblocked 10 or 20 round M14 mag in a bolt action rifle...............unless you modify the mag so that it doesn't fit in an M14/M1A........... the shorty 5 round M14 mags are okay though........

If this post was titled "new M14 mag conversion kit from wilson combat" I would believe it from the pics. :p
Good work!

Tim

Robar Industries did the first M14 Mag Conversion over 12 or so years ago, but stopped doing it due to the system being finicky and having feed problems related to the magazine. The mags need to be tuned for reliable feeding. It is a matter of the mag spring tension, as the mag was designed for a semi-auto rifle.........

Grens Vegter designed and built an M14 Mag conversion for Longshot last year...........he used it at the 2007 BCRA Precision rifle Championships......

Otherwise, congrats on a job well done!!!;)

SKBY.

yes,
I'm aware of the legalities regarding capacities, good point though, maybe some were not aware.
I will be trying some AIA 10 rounders in it as soon as I can get my hands on some. 10 rounds would be ideal anyway.
I guess time will tell how well it will work. So far so good though, and I've tried 17 different mags in it, usgi and norc.

How did the AIA 10 rounders work?;)

The AIA mags are what we use now.Having legal 10 rounders solves a lot of problems. We have conversions on 2 of a local PD's guns and after a little tuning they seem to be working great. Now some of the other PD's are getting in on the game.Craig did mine in 2005 and I took it to the Gale Mcmillian Memorial sniper match in Phoenix. It worked flawlessly and the guys from McMillian wanted to take pics of it.

cool, you should post some pics. I've only seen the robar conversions with m14 style

It looks like you used some of the existing box magazine housing for the conversion, added the deep trigger guard and mag release. Why the cut-outs on the stock - leftovers from the factory?

You wrote that you had to machine away a small thickness on the underside of the receiver so the right-hand round with feed. Have you tried retrofiting with another trigger guard and the original box magazine to see if the change was 'fatal' to unconverting your conversion?

that looks really good, does the mag contact the ground at all when shooting prone off a low profile bipod? guess you could just throw in a 5 rnd mag for that.

thanks,
I don't think it would hit but it would be close, I'm using a medium versa pod at the moment

this is all new bottom metal, I didn't touch the other one, it can still be used. the cutouts were in the stock already from the other set up as you mentioned

thanks, there has been a lot of interest. I have not decided yet if I'll go into production but I might make a few in september.
