Before I get crapped on for not using the search feature, :mad:It doesnt like 7.62, 7*62 etc. If someone would care to tell me what I should type in, feel free.

So I grabbed a box of surplus ammo yesterday, the good CZ corrosive stuff, and it was advertised as 7.62X 39mm, but the wooden crate clearly states 7.62X43. I asked why its advertised as 39, when the box says 43, and the retailer assured me it was 39. Now that I have the wooden box open, the sardine can also states .43mm on it.:confused:

I noticed the date appears to be from the 70's on the side, and there's a piece of paper labeled PROHLEDNUTO Datum -5.11.1999 inside. I was worried this was the expiry date, but I think its an inspection date, based on some online translation searches I tried...although PROHLEDNUTO doesn't come back from an online CZ translator, so I don't know what language it is.

So can anyone tell me if this is the wrong ammo? I think I can still return it as long as I dont open the sardine can.

As a side note, I picked up a couple of the coolest ammo boxes from princess auto today, they stack and cost $10. The labels say 32 cartriges of 40 mm. Guess what fit perfectly inside??

ViktorF, how many rounds can you fit into the 40MM case? I grabbed two 40's and two more 50's yesterday and have been wanting to get some more M43. I do like the Czech storage case for its, rustic look, but if you can fit a whole case into a 40MM that would be great!'

They also had 'tool boxes and storage cases' which looked like old flat and long wooden crates that could of held a RPG or something. No use for me tho.

I stacked the green boxes on their ends so they fit, and there would be just enough room for one more box, so 2 rows of 19, and one row of 18, leaves about 2" on top. So, yep, they hold a full 1120 rounds as if they were made to. Some old Cz. guy is rolling over in his grave knowing he packed those bullets up with the utmost care and I just stuffed them into a box labeled "USA/DOD"

You can fit 1050 rds into a .50 BMG box if it's loose. You could probably fit 2 cases in the 40mm box loose.
