I know i can get a 7.5 inch ar15 barrel made for a couple of machinists/gunsmiths, if not, I can get a barrel cut (which have its own respective problems, i.e. might need a new gas port).
But my question is; would i need a special gas tube for it? If so, what kind and where can i get one? I've seen a couple of AR's that claim to have a pistol length gas system, would i need something like that?

FYI, I'm a ar15 newbie.... so please be gentle :runaway:

they tend to keyhole at 50 yards. 1/7 is highly recommended... 1/8 is borderline. The gas port will have to be redrilled as it is a different diameter than normal. It is of course easyer to cut a stainless than a clomed lined barrel.

I would love a Noveske barrel but the closet retailer who sells them is Socom Supply and I thought they only sold the uppers (which their out of).
Keyhole? What does this mean?

where the bullet woud hit the target sideways instead of straitforward. The bullet looses it's flight stability and tumbles in the air. The 7.5 inch 1/9 twist does not have anought time to stabelise the bullet

All i see is ass kissing and Tags..what page?
And if you are under the impression that they should perform like a 20",then you are out to lunch.
It's a pistol lenght barrel, you can only expect it to perform at pistol ranges..

A 7.5" AR is just an smg with AP capabilities, not a target rifle.

in a 7.5 inch barrel with a 1/9 twist, the bullet won't even make a complete turn before leaving the barrel. with a 1/7, at least it will make an almost complete spin before leaving.

Nevermind - ignore that link. Build one with Wilson 7.5" barrel. It will work great.

Now you tell me........ I did actually read those 7 pages of hearing how AWESOME THE NOVESKE UPPER AND HOW IT REQUIRES EVERY LETTER OF MY SETENCE TO BE CAPITALIZED.
Sorry, i just find it annoying when that guy WES GRANT can't turn off his caps lock when making a post... (ending rant now).

I'm not gonna try to deny that the MSTN/Noveske is kickass but that doesn't tell me anything about the performance of a 1:9 twist.
People on this forum speak that the RRA .223 pistol was good and that was a 1:9 twist barrel.

KAKO bring a novesky upper I'll cut my 1/8 twist armalite barrel. Anyone willing to donate a 1/9 barrel (any lenght I do the smitting myself) and we will do a range test on all 3 barrels? test using 55g and 62g sitting on a bench at 50 and 100 yards

With the MSTN/Noveske setup.

Its SUB Moa @ 100 M That is a 1/7 twist...
If that's the case than why does Wes state that the bullet doesn't complete a full revolution before leaving the barrel?

I too find it annoying when dealers in Arfcom leave the caps lock on. It's considered rude "shouting" when we do it, but it seems to be a "right" the dealers have. Hell, Larue does bold caps locks in everypost.

To answer some other questions;

7.5" barrels use a "pistol length" gas tube. You can probably cut down any gas tube, but their are some made for this purpose.

You will have to drill a new gas port due to the shortness of the barrel. It's location and size are best left to a pro who's done it numerous times.
