M14 flash hider options

Okay, so I plan on cutting down the barrel length on my norc m14, install the navy gas lock front sight and install a .30 cal flash hider .. BUT I absolutly dispise the vortex.

What are my other options for flash hiders? I really really REALLY like the short birdcage flash hider found on the vietnam era M16 (which coincidentally looks like a very short version of the m14's stock flash hider) but its obviously too small a dia. for the M14.

Please post pics of the other flash hiders so I can get an idea of what it looks like!

A 223 flash suppressor can be reamed out to clear the 30 cal bullet. Options are much wider than just those made for the 30 cal.
 
Use a norc or G.I flash hider, scrap the navy sight and keep original irons. have your gunsmith lightly ream the inner flashider splines so they will clear the shorty barrel threads, there is no need for new splineways to be cut oin the barrel, there is enough meat inside the flash hider to ream and cut the 1/2 x 28 tpi threads. drill and tap underneath on what would be the bayone lug base and install a set screw. have a thrust washer fitted where the castlenut would go..... and voila..... you have a standard flash hider on a norc shorty.

Misanthropist gets all the credit for dreamin this up, custom work done by Dlask Arms..... for CHEAP .. it works.... and I like it. My shorty has been adapted this way using a G.I. flash hider.
 
It's true, I just reuse the original flash hiders now.

All you do is swing by a machinist, have him bore out the flash hider to 1/2"x28 tpi thread, and screw it back on the barrel. You pop a compression washer in where the castle nut goes, and adjust the indexing of the sight by either cranking the hell out of the flash hider, or by lapping the compression washer down on a sharpening stone.

I guess I should do a write up for you guys.

It's funny, for ages people kept telling me how this wouldn't work. Luckily I ignored them as it works great! I won't be buying any gas lock front sights any more, myself.
 
Okay, so i started looking for "muzzle brakes" and now am finding many. Are there any non-vortex that work quite well? I found one called the US Coast Guard that looks somewhat interesting.

Do any work better then others? Or does it all come down to just the look factor?

I've got a Smith Coast Guard brake on my Norc and would recommend it - very noticable difference in muzzle rise.

i prefer the dlask ported brakes myself, I've owned the SEI coast guard and sold it prefering the dlasks side cut ports.
