How do you guys fit the extractor of your 1911? Mine came with no tension at all.

I planned buying that Weigand tool but now the company owner refuses shipping out of the US. I guess it's rather silly... it's just a small arbor hand press... Is there any other tool I can buy?

I tried bending it with my bare hands but I couldn't make it budge at all--I was afraid applying too much pressure could break it.

Tension can be adjusted by removing the extractor, reversing it in the extractor hole in the slide, and pressing sideways one way or the other to increase or decrease tension.

Yes, but use a pair of pliers for this, and clamp the part just above the mid way (bulge) point on the extractor, and apply pressure with a twisting action to get more of a curve in the bend. This will make the tension more consistent and it will last longer.

Could you please post a sketch of the clamping and twisting points?

What do you use from clamping the extractor?

Is it easy to bend? I hope I won't damage it with the pliers.

Thanks a lot! :)

I think the first question should be why are you worried about it ? are you having any failures to extract ?

If your pistol is functioning fine I would leave it alone, If you are determined to "fix" it here is a link to an article from Bill Wilson. m1911.org/technic2.htm

So far it's extracted all cases but a few get chewed on the neck or fall without force nearby my feet--while other cases fly backwars and a lil' to the right with reasonable speed.
