Broken Tavor and XCR

The carrier should not chip like that. There probably a hairline crack somewhere already before the chunk went off, which could not be detected by nake eyes. I will stop firing until the carrier is replaced to be on the safe side.
It could also be a sign of improper heat treatment, resulting in metal being too brittle.

??? Inspect and re-lube constantly???...for a hard use battle rifle, which the XCR claims to be, and for the price of the bloody thing a good lube prior to and after a range session should be all that's needed........

It is just during the break in period of 300 rounds that this is required. I have fired near 2k rounds with mine now not a single malfunction no wear or marks looks the same as it did when I purchased it because I followed the manufacturers instructions for breaking in the rifle. If you have issues I suggest going to XCRFORUM.COM and talking to Terra there before coming here and pissing and moaning about something probably was because the firearm wasn't inspected and treated the way it was supposed to during break in. This case is probably the exception though and it could be that it was no fault of your own but just a defective part. But any rifle whether it be a AK47 or a ruger 10/22 will have parts fail. The rifle is in its infancy still. How long did the AR 15 have problems 20 years?

We have had less problems with the Tavor than the Ars,XCR, and most other guns to date.
Dave

TAVOR = New firearm

we fired 40 rnds not hundreds

Ar = 40 + year design

How can you compare problem occurrences in numbers already ?? with 40 rounds and a broken bolt ?? (yes its broken...)

10 000 rounds through my 16 inch LMT and no hickup or broken anything... i must be lucky....

Wow, just wow...

The TAVOR itself had gone through some trials and had been in use with more than a few nations. So you can expect some of the big issues had been sorted out and the technology has matured to certain degree. Cannot say that for the XCR, if my understanding of Robarm is correct, it is made by a small shop with limited money. The whole thing is an on-going beta testing program. In a way, it is really not fair to the XCR. You cannot really use the standard of a military rifle to judge a system that is more or less marketed purely as a consumer item. In a way, if you like it -go buy one. However, if you try to elevate the XCR to a "combat" proven system, you just set yourself up for disappointment.

I really ... really want an XCR in 7.62x39 ....... .223 just doesn't get my interest...... BUT it's lookin like i'm gonna wait another year and see how the XCR does on the market.
I realize that Armedsask's comments on this forum are often a bit "gritty" is how I'll put it hehehe no offense intended...... BUT it's still valuable info from someone who obviously knows and gets intimate with his firearms. Like it or not it is a viable review.
for now i'm gonna continue my quest for another "black rifle" and the one I really ... really.... really want is a Magpul Masada ..... but i'm holdin out for it in .308

Yeah the way he broke in the rifle affects the way it was engineered. you have a great argument. please stop.

There isn't much difference between the two just a little carbon build up and a few small wear marks. That nice to see the Tavor is holding up after 20k rounds. I bet if you cleaned up the Tavor really well you might be able to tell the difference between the two.

User error could be an explaination for the wear on the XCR. If the break in of the XCR is followed according to Robinson armaments directions these kind of problems would not occur. You must inspect and relube constantly during breakin period and if you noticed something wasn't right the gun should have been taken down cleaned and relubricated and obviously that wasn't done. So don't blame the rifle for your improper treatment during the break in period.

no kidding. I did what they said and I have a rifle now with more then 3 thousand rounds and not a single problem other then the tightening of the gas block WHICH THEY TOLD ME TO DO IN THE MANUAL. this rifle can group under an inch using crappy federal 52gr AE rounds. The trigger sucks but so do most guns (THE TAVOR IS NO EXCEPTION with its 8 pound trucker pull) and there is alread a match trigger on the way for it.

don't whine and diss a quality firearm since you can't read the manual. Just like the goofs that whined that the M16 doesn't work flawlessly and you shouldn't have to clean it because it is so "space-age"

I've got a couple thousand rounds out of mine as well with no problems, and like you, I can easily get 1" groupings at 100yrds with 55gr surplus. I'll have to post some pics when I finish this work tour. ;)

any of you guys get the 7.62x39 version of the xcr??
this is the version i am mosted interested in hearing reviews on
p.m. me if you like

He is not talking about the gas block loosening or the trigger pull, read the following:

Onto the XCR. The more time I spend with this rifle, the more I despise it. After putting less than 100 rounds through it (that's total for the life of the rifle) we started getting some trigger issues. Turns out we broke one of the little spring clips that holes the hammer pin in. Who builds a so-called special forces rifle with s**tty little spring clips holding the pins in place? No wonder it failed the trials. I'm probably going to make a new pin that is held in place with E-clips or something.

I hate this rifle.

After actually reading that we find that the issue is with the engineering of the rifle, not because he didnt break it in properly or because he didnt tighten the gas block.
