I've been wanting a fast twist .22-250 for a while. Shooting a 75 amax at 3300+ seems like a pretty good way to make the most out of NB's stupid .224 centerfire only for varmints law. Should do nicly w/ a 75 scirocco, or 62 tsx as well. I've got a #3 contour 1-8" rock barrel and a Model 7 just begging for a rebarrel. I'm thinking chop the tube at 22-24" and try to keep the whole package around 8 lbs all up. There has been some discussion about whether to go straight .22-250, or AI. Clearly either one will toast a barrel in pretty short order, but this is a rilfe that will get carried alot, and most shots will be spaced apart, so feeding, function, and portability are the determining factors. I know the standard .22-250 will do the job, but can the AI be made to feed well out of the model 7? I'm all for the speed if it can be made to work.
