Ok guys.. heres the thing. I recently acquired my PAL. Right now I want to build a cool looking AR15 or something similiar like a M4.

Is it better to just buy the Armalite from Wolverine Supplies and then mod it? Or is it better to just start ordering everything piece by piece and assemble it?

Im looking at the thread of AR15s and it looks like there is a mix of M4 in there as well. I like how the M15 looks with the short 16' barrel.

If you guys can help me piece together a nice rig it would be greatly appreciated. The problem is.. I dont know what manufacturer is good and what isnt, and the individual components I need.

To my understanding.. is the M15 offered from Wolverine basically the AR15?

Sorry for the newbness lol :slap:

Thanks guys!

Welcome aboard!

I'm assuming you've obtained your RPAL and not just your PAL? All AR-15 type rifles are currently classified as restricted (same as handguns).

There are a number of different makes of AR currently available in Canada including Colt, LMT, STAG, LMT, Rock River Arms, Bushmaster, DPMS, Armalite and Noveske, just to name a few.

They all share the same basic design, however, there are differences in quality, fit/finish and durability due to manufacturing tolerances, quality of base parts, forged vs. cast, etc...

As such, there are various "tiers" of ARs out there. Colt is considered top tier due to the fact that is the actual US military contractor. Colts generally hold their value quite well and their civilian M4 LE carbines now command a premium. Many also consider LMT of equal quality to Colt. Noveske also produces a superior product. Prices are reflected in the above cases.

A personal favorite of mine is STAG Arms. The examples I own or have handled have been every bit as nice as my Colts/LMT and really offer a great value. I personally put them near the top tier.

Armalites, RRA, etc... all make very good rifles and you certainly won't go wrong purchasing any of them. I would avoid the bottom brands however, such as Olympic Arms. Just too many out-of-spec, poorly finished rifles for me to bother with.

Just check out the banners at the top of the page. There are numerous CGN sponsoring dealers that can meet your current AR needs. Don't be afraid to use the search function either!

I would strongly urge you to purchase your first AR, learn it well and then later try your hand at building one.

Get a RPAL, AR15's are inherently restriscted. Secondly, after you get a RPAL, for simplicity sake just buy a complete AR15 from "x" dealer. I can't tell you much about manufacturer's since i'm working on my first AR also. Don't get caught up in military designations of "M4/M16" they're all AR15's with slightly different features.

Either way, the lesson of today's story is GET RPAL NOW.

Thanks guys. I should have posted that I have my RPAL. I already own a M&P 9mm as my first pistol. I wanted to build a nice AR15 variant for the range as well.

I would like a rifle that looks like the AR15 or the M4. If I found a picture of something i like, would you guys be able to guide me in ordering the parts? Or should I hit up sponsor and order one?

I really like how the Stag Arms Model 2L. Would that be a good rifle to start with and eventually order some "mods" :)

Again.. thanks for the help guys!

Stag is top notch, great bang for your buck.

Lots of great options out there, many of CGN dealers I am sure would be glad to help you out!

congrats wonger you win the "newbie of the week" award !

thank you for starting a good thread with a good question

and not something dumb, like you wanna buy one for 600 or you cut the barrel to 2 inches etc or asking if its ok to strap a rocket launcher to your car. you rock!

hahah.. damn.. those were my next questions  jk

So I am leaning towards ordering the stag arms model 2L since there is a bunch of you saying Stag is a good brand.

I guess I should start simple by ordering this rifle and modding as I go along. I thought it would be cheaper if I ordered components I wanted. But I like how the model 2L looks out of the box.

Since im set on this rifle, does anybody know which vendor has the lowest price for this rifle? :D

Also, if you guys have some awesome suggestions, please tell me.. since after all.. I have no clue what kind of good mods are out there.

I would get it either thru Walt at Arms East directly, or thru his site sponsoring retailers such as The Shooting Edge (TSE). Get it, shoot it for a while and then think about what mods you want/need.

True that.. thanks for the help guys. Im located in Calgary.. I'll pop by shooting edge this weekend.

TSE is probably the best place in Calgary Wonger for that type of weapon...a buddy of mine has a Stag..nice weapon and i think their priced a bit cheaper than the bushmaster and armalite...as for mods the edge has everything you'd need down the line, just watch'em sometimes i've heard a few horror stories of them selling weapons on guys that had deposits down on them...haha woops...buy your ammo elsewhere though..tres expensive there...try wholesale or russells..

Thanks! I have been buying my ammo at Wholesale. picked up 1000 rounds of 9mm and went nuts at the range haha.

As for the Stag, I just got off the phone, and they dont have any in stock. Wolverine has them in stock. Is there any other vendors that might sell them for cheaper? :)

Pro line treats me really well, my friends and I have bought all our pistols from them.

quick question guys, whats the difference between the armalite M15 and the stag arms model 2L beside the $400 difference.

are there any pros and cons about the 2 brands? Wolverine has a cool package with a stage 2 trigger for the M15.

Thanks again guys
