Ruger No 1 varmint

generally not as accurate as a bolt action, they're finicky about bedding and forend pressure. They can be made to perform well, but it takes a lot more effort. It all depends what your expectations and skill level are/is.

X2. I had one in 22-250 that I've recently given to my son living in the B.C. interior. The reason, I replaced it with an old custom Winchester High Wall in 219 Donaldson Wasp with a 10X J. Unertl scope.:)
The Ruger No.1 is a good, well made and a classic looking singleshot but sometimes need a little fine tuning to make them really shoot. I have an article from the September 2000 issue of Rifle titled Shooting & Tuning the Ruger No.1 by Ross Seyfried I've scanned that is helpful. I had a local gunsmith make a few of the suggested alterations and it definately made a difference.
If you're interested, send me a PM & I'll e-mail the article to you.

I bought one give years ago. It consistently shot 5/8" three shot groups until the barrel wore it. It was replaced with a Ruger take off barrel that I bought for $45. It shoots the same groups with the same load.
