what milsurp do you use to hunt and why do you like it? I'm debating what I want to get as my big game rifle and some milsurp's attract me (primarily the Lee Enfield No. 4).
 
A scoped L.E. No.4 (it was already sporterized BEFORE I got it). It is VERY accurate, to the point that I want to restore it to look like an Enforcer.
The barrel is bobbed in front of the sight so this is the only option left.

Funny you mention, PervèreP., it's the very same rig over here. Scoped No4 with shortened barrel. (likewise not my doing, but a previous owner's). That's the first Enfield I bought, and I just can't stop buying / trading / restoring them ever since!!!

I use a No.4 Mk2 with all the wood and a 1.5-4.5x Weaver on a Cad-Tech mount. It is accurate enough for the hunting I do and the .303British has enough range and power for any big game hunting I likely ever will do. It wasn't expensive. It is thoroughly reliable. It is robust enough to stand knocking about in the bush. I like having ten rounds in the magazine and usually don't bother to carry any more spare ammo - I'd go back to my vehicle and do some impromptu zero checking and practice long before I miss my tenth deer of the day. It is a little heavier than purpose-built hunting rifles but I don't mind that so much as to be in a big hurry to change it. But I am probably going to change it eventually...

I have another No.4 Mk2 which I acquired already "sporterized" (barrel chopped ahead of the front sight) and which I am gradually (i.e. procrastinating) redoing along the lines of an Enforcer/Envoy. If it turns out accurate enough it will become my principal big-game rifle.

Same here! A #4 mk1 lee enfield (previously sporterized) with a shortened barrell and a 4X32mm bushnell mounted on top. It is crazy accurate and the .303 british cartridge is more than enough power to knock down any game that I hunt. I am a fairly new hunter, this is my first deer gun and I would be hard pressed to give it up in the future.
 
I typically use prettier guns to hunt, but one year, just for the hell of it, I hunted with a full-military SVT40.

Lots of "old timers" were kind enough to point out that I ought not to hunt with a "machine gun" and that using the SVT was "illegal".

Same old, same old - I guess.
 
Mauser 96 in 6.5x55 with a scope worked well for years. By far the Lee Enfields were the most popular milsurp to hunt with around here. Were cheap and plentiful at one time.
 
This year it is a toss up between my sportered Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55, as the full wood one is a safe queen now, or my full wood Mosin M44 carbine, or my Spotered P14.

Methinks any of them would work just fine.
I guess it depends on the weather at the time.
 
I primarily use a sportered M38 6.5X55 Swede when I use a Milsurp, but have shot deer with my Carcano 6.5 carbine, Norwegian Krag carbine 6.5, AG42B 6.5 semi, M44 carbine, M-1 Garand, No1 and 4 Lee Enfield 303's and last but not least 7X57 Spanish short rifle. I like them all and they all knock deer down just great, but the accuracy king of the whole lot is those good 'Ol 6.5 X55's. The rule of thumb is everything in a dime size group at 100 yards with my handloads in my M38. Those little Carcano carbines are heaven to carry in the bush all day as they're so short and light but unless you are into hand loading using a Carcano is out. My carcanos sat in the gun locker for many years before I finally bought dies and brass and got back into shooting them. The little artillery carbine is almost as tiny and handy as an M1 carbine but with excellent hitting power. Most guys down here using Milsurps seem to be carrying Lee Enfields of all makes though.

My Breda manufacture M1 Garand is my standard "go-to" rifle.

Unless I specifically need something notably lighter or heavier (say 6.5x55, or .375 RUM) then the Breda generally gets the nod.
 
JC with original iron sights. Its very original and maybe even "collectable" in the eyes of many folks here. But its such a great shooter I thought what the hell, let it serve humanity for a bit longer.
 
Lee Enfield Savage No.1 Mk1 scoped with Burris Fulfield 1.5 -6 with a #1 bolt head, shortened barrel with synthetic stock. Actually I have two that both will produce 1.5 " groups at 100 yrds.
 
I have hunted and killed game with an M10 Ross 303, a Mosin Nagant 7.62 Russian and a US M17 30-06, though I admit the third one there was sportered by BSA and has a scope too. I also use a Centurion 300 Win Mag. that was once a P14 303.

Most of the time if it's a milsurp it'll be my Winchester made Danish Garand. I love the Garand irons and that's one very accurate rifle. My Russian capture 98k has taken some deer too.

Picked up a full wood WW2 Carcano and some Norma 160 grain before I start loading for it, and I would like carrying that a lot for deer, but it shoots very high. I guess I could just learn to use the tip of the bead halfway inside the notch but I like a proper sight picture.

My JC and No 1 Mk III have never been hunted with yet, surprisingly.
