Problems with Norinco 1911

I just got the Norinco 1911 government model today and I find that sometimes the magazine can't be pushed into the gun. In that case, I had to press the mag release and than push it in. Any recommendations of what to do?

I am also looking to change some parts, are there any parts that should be changed before the other? Everything can be replaced with better parts but probably not all of them are necessary.

Have you had a 1911-type pistol before? The reason I ask is that a 1911 mag requires a fairly forceful tap on the baseplate to make it go all the way in. You certainly need to use a lot more force to insert the magazine than you would with a modern double stack pistol.
 
I did a full cleaning and took apart the whole gun. Not that its hard to push the mag in, but also hard for the mag to drop out. It either drops out about a CM or I had to use my other hand to pull it out. It seems like there is something wrong with the trigger, when my finger is pulling the trigger, it slides out smoothly.

Would the frame be twisted? Happen to me once with a 1911 style frame didn't even know it until I brought it into a smith and he told me. Dunno even how it happened. Cost me about 30mins labour to get it corrected and it function fine now.
 
I don think the fram is twisted. If I take the trigger out, it comes out smoothly fine but still hard to get it in. Sometimes no matter how hard to slam it, it will not go in without pusing the mag release.

Is the mag hard to put in becuase of the mag release or the mag well itself... could it be the mag itelf? Have you tried a different mag? there are those of us that can attest some mags don't like some guns... probably why I have 50-60 mags for my 1911's

Next I don't understand what your issue is with the trigger is this still a mag problem? is there a burr on the trigger? Still sounds like a tight mag issue..

I've just purchased the commander model recently, and the mag seems to need extra force to seat compared to my other pistols. Especially when the slide isnt racked. Mag release is also stiff. I assumed it was the design, and will loosen up in time. Oil up the parts in question, turn up music, and insert mag, drop mag, repeat for 20 minutes. Couldnt hurt, might help:) This worked for the stiff safety on my NZ-85b. My .02
 
Remove that magazine catch assembly. Does that make a difference when the magazine is inserted and removed? If so, a very minor adjustment to the catch will probably cure the problem.

With the magazine catch out, it goes in and out pretty smoothly. Guess I need an adjustment to the catch, or many get a new one.
 
FWIW, I have a Colt Series 80 that behaves like you describe with any mag that isn't an OEM Colt magazine. I am currently using 8-round MecGar mags and I, either, have to push them in HARD or push the mag release button to get them to go in gently. This happens when I use Shooting Star mags as well. They all drop freely though.....

I'm a bit of a lazy bugger so I've adapted to it......:D :redface:
 
Try gently polishing the mag releases lower surface, could be that the lower edge is just a bit too long. Go slow and check often, you can always polish more, you can't put back what you take off though.

Backing out the screws does not make the release lighter, guess it will lighten up with use. I tried it with the slide off the gun and the magazine doesn't fly out with the release. When I take out the sear spring and the magazine will fly out smoothly. Maybe it is interferring with the magazine. I looked at every part and couldn't figure out why. So I just gave up and assembled the gun. And when it is all assembled the mag flies out with the press of release. Weird.....

Not so weird.....there may have been some metal swarf or dried packing grease that was interfering. Detail stripping and reassmble (and I'm assuming cleaning too) probably cleared the junk out.
 
Just a suggestion, but this problem may have nothing to do with your mag catch. Make sure that the trigger bar slides smoothly in the frame cutouts on each side, and that the bar is not "bowed" or any part of it is not protruding into the magazine chute....this is very important with a 1911.
Giving the trigger bar and the frame cutouts a light stoning improves both the trigger and the smoothness of mag insertions/ejections.
