About 22,000 made. There was also a 7.7 Type 99 sniper as well, about 12,000 in total. 2.5x Scopes were used on the Type 97 and most Type 99s with some 99s issued with 4x scopes. The Type 99 snipers were not given a special designation like the Type 97.
