I need the remove the blue to finish my 1911 project.

There must be some kind of magic thing to do it. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Michael

I use muratic acid cut with water, and a good set of gloves...But they do sell blue remover such as Birchwood Caseys. Sandblasting after the debluing works even better.

Not exactly magic, but Naval Jelly and plain white vinegar will take bluing off. You are planning on putting on some other finish aren't you? Bluing doesn't need to be removed prior to putting on another finish. Leaving your pistol without some kind of finish will result in a lovely shade of rust sooner or later.

One of my friend works in an auto parts plant. They do QPQ on truck parts. He can throw slide and other parts into salt bath for me.

Just not sure have to remove blue or not.

"...He can throw the frame..." He can't, legally, do the frame. The frame is the registered part. In any case, send the trigger and hammer too.
I don't know anything about QPQ. Other than what's on the 'Net. They are talking about nearly 400 hours of exposure to salt spray before the first rust spot appeared though.
