Any first hand experience with the durability of the M&P's Melonite finish?

I know they haven't been out all that long, but I am sure someone here has had one long enough, or abused one hard enough to give some sort of opinon or report on the durability and rust resistance of the Melonite finish on the M&P's in relation to the Tenifer finish on the Glocks. I have found a few comments here and there on the internet but nothing all that substantial. I am assuming the upgraded Melonite finish on the recent XDs is exactly the same so XD owners feel free to jump in.

Mine is still fine - but I baby my guns, I clean them and everything

mine's fine and I beat the #### out of it. toss it at things, like gravel, sand etc.

The only ones that I have heard of were very early production units, and the rust was on them in the box new. Smith customer service dealt with them immediately.

I heard the finish on new M&P's is a little different than on older models; not as shiny...supposed to be tougher.

good as the day I bought it, but mine sees pretty light duty use.

Unlike a new XD9 that began rusting the day after I took it out of its "hermetically sealed bag", my M&P40's finish is superb.
Springfield lost many customers with their family-owned, arrogant attitude toward the defects inherent with their XD's, and their refusal to supply parts to individual XD owners whose XD's experienced these defects.
(Thank goodness for John at Wolverine, who came to the rescue, even with XD owners who purchased their XD's elsewhere)
S&W, otoh, have won many new M&P customers with their commitment to Customer Service, even extending this to their Canadian Customers.
