Why the ef did I wait so long? All I can say is WOW! I'm now a 1911 believer! It's so much easier to shoot accuratly than my HKs. With the HKs, I tend to shoot center left, say 2 inches from the bull. With the Ranger, I tore a fist sized hole dead center of the target and the first shot went straight on the X. Too bad I forgot my target at CRAFM.

I also did double taps and damn, it's easy to come back on target.

Only drawnback I had was that it had difficulty feeding the first round of the mag. It's so tight, the slide wouldn't fully close and chamber the round. Out of 8 mags(80 rounds) it did this maybe 4 or 5 times. I guess it still needs a bit of breaking in.

Edit: That's not a frame crack rear of the trigger, it's a cat hair

I had one in 9MM, nice gun. The STIppling started to get at my hands if I was not wearing gloves. I guess I grip the gun tightly...

The feeding issues may also have to do with the proprietary guide rod used in the Ranger II's it being bushing less and all ala the STI RecoilMaster guide rod system.

FreedomVentures should be able to help you out, but FWIW I traded an AR-15 off to Gunnar at ARMCO for mine. I later got rid of the RII for a SA Loaded Parkerized and have not looked back. My G19 fulfills my compact 9MM needs.

I should also have tried the original mags it came with. Maybe it's the Chip McCormick mags, but I doubt it.

With my most recent 200Gr reloadings for my .45 1911 and using my 10 round power mags I have had some issues feeding the first round via the sling shot method. It does get hung up and the mags and gun are both broken in. I might have not crimped them enough or my springs are getting older after only 100 usages. Who knows.

Anyways, my 8 rnd Power Mags always run 100%.

I had the same experience as you. I was an HK disciple, and had no interest at all in 1911s. Then got to shoot an STI Viper at Wild West in Edmonton. Holy ####, did I shoot a lot better! Have since sold all my HKs and invested in a few high-end 1911s.

Only drawback I had was that it had difficulty feeding the first round of the mag. It's so tight said:
After a mag change try pulling back on the slide and releasing instead of using the slide stop release. It may be that your spring and slide may need to break themselves in. After a few hundred rounds and a few through cleanings and fresh oil, it should operate perfectly. STI makes some tight 1911's and they need to be worked in.
