Well, took my sister out to EOHC today for her introduction to firearms. This was her first time ever shooting anything bigger than a air rifle or pistol.
I first sat her down at home and had her learn "PROVE" and the range rules/commands. Then we moved to a few dry drills. She picked it up fairly quickly although she had a little problem racking the slide back at first. After I told her not to be afraid to brake it and to be less gentle with it, she got right in the groove of things.
So we made our way to the range with the Ruger MkIII 22/45 and the S&W 1911 PD. Once there, I explained once again the procedures and told her to watch me shoot a couple of mags. Now it was her turn, we set up targets a +/- 7yrds and she fired 10 rounds. Most of those were on target and she even managed a bull's eye!
From there she was hooked! We went thru 250 rounds of .22 when a nice fellow came over from the next range and offered up his 92F. Since this was a perfect stepping stone before taking out the .45 for her, she decide to try it. I think the Hogue grips helped her with shooting the 9mm.
Finally, it was time to take out my 1911 and as she prepared to fire, I placed my hand between her shoulders just in case... BOOM! She took the recoil like a champ and turned around with the biggest grin on her face.
She then fired the other 7 rounds. Her hand was bruised up a little between her index finger and her thumb, but she didn't complaint. All she said is: "I really like the .22, it's my favorite, can I shoot it some more?".
I ended the session with a drill of double tapping multiple targets and reloading, to make things interesting.
After cleaning up, we were in the truck on the way back talking rifles and I couldn't believe what I heard. She said that she would like to learn how to shoot rifles so that she could start hunting, but that she also wanted to take the restricted course because she thinks pistols are more fun at the range.
Holy sh*t!
I am one proud brother!
