I'm going to reload a bunch of spent 12 gauge shells, some for skeet and others for duck (steel) etc. and i want to mark them so i don't mix em up.
Is a paint marker going to flake enough or burn in my chamber to do any harm. I'm thinking not but just putting it out there for experiences or better ideas.

Try a magic marker "X" across the face of the brass head ... red for one, black for another, etc. Doesn't hurt a thing.
Not a bad idea, and i did think of that but i'd like to easily ID them while sitting in a box or bucket (yea that's how i store my 12g. lol) so i need to mark the plastic in 2 places on the side to be visable while plucking and sorting.
The shells are black and i have some red, yellow, and white paint markers we use for marking heat #s on steam pipe so i immagine it won't burn. Just wondering if it'll flake and build up in the chamber or if it won't adhere to the plastic on the shell well enough to last a year or 2, or if there's some better way to mark the plastic.

I guess i'll just have to try some practice shots. I live in the city so it's a bit of a trip to go shooting and i'd hate to mark 100 shells and findout my idea was crap.

How 'bout a dab of krylon paint on the shells? I sometime re-write the info with a sharpie because it always wears off in my belt holder.
