Heading over to the UK for a week and planning on visiting a few of the old English gun makers, Purdey, Holland&Holland, William Evans....looking for advice as I am over for work and will have limited time to get to them all.

Anyone ever been in these stores...just wish I could afford to bring back a souvenir that goes bang.

Purdeys is on Audley Street and H&H is on Brunton. They are a brief walk apart. Boss was in between but has I'm told since closed their shop.

William Evans is on St. James and is across the street from the Beretta Gallery.

They can all be done in a half day by taking a cab from H&H/Purdey to William Evans.

For fun excursions I'd suggest a train trip to Tunbridge Wells for Chris Potter Guns, probably the friendliest gun store I've been in anywhere.

You might also do some shooting. A tube/taxi ride will take you to the H&H shooting grounds in Northwoods or if you have a car to West Wycombe where E.J. Churchill is located. At both Northwoods and West Wycombe you can take some instruction and do some shooting. It's not cheap but it is fun.

Correct me if im wrong but isnt there a gun ban in the U.K ??? Why would there be gun stores for then ??
Happy to oblige. There are lots of guns in the U.K. and many gun stores. Handguns are banned but shotguns and rifles are very popular.

Thanks Claybuster for all the info...I'm staying right in central London so I should be able to get to most of them I hope. If work schedule allows for it I would certainly head out to Northwoods to do some shooting.

If I do get to the shops and the shooting grounds I'll be sure to drag a camera along with me.

Edited to add: How are these shops (attitude wise) to go into for someone just browsing even a lowly Canadian over from the colonies?
