I had an interesting phone call this morning. The CFO for BC called me to let IPSC members know that if they are members of good standing, that if they Fax in their IPSC membership card they will get a long term 4 province ATT. While this was for BC i would imagine that it would hold true for all four provinces. Anyhow he asked me to pass the word around.
 
One of my ATT (I have 3 of them) is for Canada wide...........for a competition with an invitation, when I move from NS I couldnt get that but I guess they got tired to see me at the office to ask for ATT's :) I do travel more then most in my province.
 
Great news Walter! I've been asking the local IPSC directors for a while now to lobby the CFO to have IPSC recognized as a 'club' for long term ATT purposes.

Based upon my and other's experience that's the way it WAS for years. I don't know of anyone in Alberta who renewed this year who has had their long term western Canada ATT approved. It's been one province only, even though we had a western Canada wide one previously.

Nowhere in the FA that I can see is there provision for the CFO to set up a two tier system: one for IPSC holders and one for the rest of us. For that matter, there's a THREE tier system: the above 2, plus those who still hold unexpired Western Canada ATT's from before.
Further, the Charter states that you must be treated equally under the law.

I just had mine done, but I had to convince them it would save time and frustration in the long run...I ended up faxing in my IDPA, IPSC, DCRA, APRA & CSRA memberships complete with match dates across the provinces I plan to attend.

If I was a shooter who did not shoot out of province, I would not have gone to the extra lengths to obtain those conditions on the ATT.
However, I believe in principle that if one holds a valid licence, that should effectively act as your ATT.

Nobody has ever explained to me to my satisfaction the purpose of an ATT.
Nobody.
The only plausible explanation is that it was devised to make owning and shooting a restricted firearm a PITA.
My 4 province LTATT expires with my PAL in October....I'll be interested to see what they "grant" me when I renew.
 
This is really starting to pisss me off.
I was told the same thing, I have a residence in SK, & AB. I shoot in BC, AB, & SK with the CPCA so why can't I get one???
Why is IPSC and IDPA more important than the the CPCA, we have national matches too....
There may be another way around this issue as well, apparently some have been told that if you have a range membership in another province that you can get your LTATT, most likely just to that province, but if a few clubs got together and came up with an honorary type membership for a small fee that would be another way.
It would have to be low enough that it would make more sense to do that rather than get an IPSC or IDPA membership on top of your other memberships.

I spoke with Maurice Sawchuk directly and explained my situation. They can issue the long term, or issue a dozen or more for this year and more for following years. I wouldn't think the particular sport has anything to do with it.
 
Those with Canada wide ATT can you scan them and pm me so I could get a copy? I'm taking the CFO to court on ATT issue, that would help a lot.

Slight hijack here...but if one travels with a restricted to visit another range for a competition or just to shoot there.(with the appropriate ATT)...what's the legal rundown for having your restricted away from your home address? Is it considered to be in transport the whole time away from home? Ie. in a friends house or hotel etc...

I was wondering about taking my restricted to the Okanagan but live in lower mainland. I have the long term ATT, but if i'm just shooting for fun at a range in the Okanagan for a day while on a 5 day holiday is it considered "in transport" the whole time?

Called Edmonton number for Alberta CFO for a LTATT yesterday. Spoke to a nice young fellow.

It arrived in the mail today. ".... to and from all approved ranges, licensed gunsmith, and border crossings in the Province of Alberta, Sask, and BC."

valid today through my birthday 2011 just like my PAL.

No questions about range memberships, shooting competitions or groups,or even about my CCW in the USA, nothing......

If the Canadian government trusts you to have a gun why don't they trust you taking it to a competition out of your home province? My drivers licence is valid in all of Canada; why not my PAL and ATT? What percentage of homicides involving a legally owned restricted firearm happen outside of the owner's home province? Likely 0.0001% :confused:

Their not. (and I shoot both) The real question is how does making shooters jump through the loops AND wasting tax dollars paying the CFOs make the streets of Canada safer from gang banger shootings? :confused: Seriously. :confused:

That's just making your costs go up. A better solution is to write your CFO a letter. Ask them why they are making it difficult for law abiding citizens enjoying their hobbies.

My current ATT is valid for British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Yukon. It expires in 2009. I really don't think the CFO knows I shoot IPSC or IDPA but I guess I'll see what happens next year. Tune in then. ;)

I really hope that you all let your MPs know about this. Ask a few hard questions why the CFOs are making legal gun owners' lives difficult. How does this prevent illegal use of guns? How does this stop criminals and gangs from using illegally imported guns? Why are your tax dollars being wasted with all this paper work instead of being spent on health care and really saving lives? Why do I need a short term ATT when I buy a new restricted gun when I already have a long term ATT that covers me to that same gun store? Why is the Conservative Party not doing anything about this? Don't they realize that most gun owners financially support them? Why treat law abiding gun owners like ex-cons on parole?

Geographical extent

63. (1) Licences, registration certificates, authorizations to transport, authorizations to export and authorizations to import are valid throughout Canada.
