A few questions for you M&P owners....

Starting fresh (as you are) I'd probably go with the 40. Especially if I had a good source of reloaded 40 ammo, and the money savings that you realize by pooling your reloading bucks (ie buying a 7Lb instead of a 1 Lb. cannister of powder and ten thousand instead of one thousand primers). The M&P's were designed to be 40 cal pistols, so they won't wear out due to the increased recoil, as that's what the design was built for.

Incidently, 40 cal is a bit of an also ran to me - when I started shooting it hadn't been invented yet, does that mean I'm getting old? :)

Me too LOL I just wasn't sure if you were aware ;):D

I figure they will let us have it, if we keep sending them in and calling. Since S&W allowed it last time, we have some ammo for this time! Plus, my dealer told me about it, and gave me the link to the website for the rebate. :)

Good luck to you, I'm sending mine in as soon as I get the emailed copy of my sales receipt. Assuming they send them, I bet it will be here before my pistol arrives! :runaway:

You dont expect your pistol to arrive for 6 months?:p:D

Well, I hope the mag rebate will be here in 6-8 weeks, which is the time I expect my pistol in... if it takes 4 weeks for the transfer (which is about right) then another week or two to get shipped to me from BC to Ontario, then it might be a good race! :)

If the rebate takes 6 months, then my pistol had better beat it... although at the current rate of taking 2 weeks just to start the transfer...

I was told the rebate was no good to canadians. AdamO was told the opposite from the lady at S&W who deals with exports. I sent my rebate form in 2 weeks ago. I will let you know if it arrives.

I used to be a dyed in the wool Glockaholic and owned 11 of them........until I got my first M&P. IMHO the M&P is far and a way a better pistol. I now have one Glock and three 9mm M&Ps (Service, Compact & Pro) and I can say in all honesty that I am still waiting for malfunction #1 to occur. I use them for plinking, CCW (yes, we do that here in North Carolina) and USPSA Production Division.

The Glock was a fantastic pistol but they have refused to upgrade in all these years and now other guns (M&P, XD, etc.) are passing them by. I think they are prisoners of their own "Perfection" advertising campaign. I feel sort of sorry for them. No, I really don't!

Me too. I just received my M&P, love the way it feels in the hand. If it shoots as well, I'm selling my Glocks.

Quick question - is the new Pro that much different/better? They're not available in Canada yet, and I'm eagerly waiting for it.

I sold my Glock 17 after purchasing my M&P. Both are great firearms, but the M&P has a more natural feel. The trigger works it's self out in about 700-1000 rounds. No FT_'s, no mags falling out, no complaints except how much I'm spending on ammo now. Actually- I do wish the sights were a little better-I'm looking at upgrading them. Otherwise, you won't go wrong with M&P!...Then again, I like the look of the new XD-M....Lotto 649, where are you when I need you!!

+1 , but I only had two of them. Sold my G22 for a M&P40. The design similarities are amazing, how there wasn't a patent infringment makes me wonder whats a patent worth?
The M&P has great ergonomics and arguably a better trigger. The mags may be more fragile than a Glocks but at least when you eject them they fall out of the gun. I've had many headaches dealing with sticky Glock magazines. I've also replaced a few extractors on Glocks, by the size of the M&P's extractor I don't think it'll be an issue. As far as sights go, both pistols leave something to be desired IMO. I replaced mine with Dawson FO front and plain serated rear, it was an improvement well worth the money.
As for whats better, 9 or 40 I think it's a wash. The 40 definately kicks more than the nine with factory ammo but the 40 has way more stopping power than the nine. I reload so downloading the 40 is easy and if I ever were to need "more" for SHTF its there, in the nine you can't.
Overall it's a great platform.

Mine went back to warranty twice and worked after a new extractor.

I spent over 70 bucks on shipping for a pistol that costs 650 bucks + tax.....it is retarded.

Have all three M&P models 9mm, 40 & 45acp.

Sold my Rugers and Glocks.

Very satisfied with the M&P pistol series. Do not have the compact version yet so can't give my feedback on it.

The 9mm is the smoothest shooting. Accuracy very good on all and the only difference is the slight increase inb recoil and weight.

Very true. Glock trap themselves with their own PERFECTION and has no idea that everyone has run as fast as they can.

I've got about 6000 rounds through my 9. It handles and shoots a lot better than my P99. The ejection SUCKS. Most of the brass lands on me. All of my 'old' mag bases broke. S&W said they'd put some new ones in the mail for me. Haven't seen them yet.

Recently though, I noticed that the locking block is beat to hell, and a small piece of metal is missing from the lug on the bottom of the barrel. I'll grab the camera from work and take some pictures when I get a chance.

Overall, I like it a lot.
