Just to piss everybody off - I got both! Hehe. Shot "SAGEd" norinco M14s so far. And now I also have "JAEd" another norinco M14s. I wonder accuracy-wise wich one will win? I put my 5$ on SAGE.

SAGE (or ebr) has "Riflescope" on it, you can guess the quality. Well, I actually like that cheapo scope - longer eye relief and that weird reticle but still quite clear.

JAE will have "Fitco" 6-24x44 on it, another pride of chinese industry. I am not glass-crasy so to me both scopes ok.

Ammo will be cheapest Federal 150gr factory loads. Since I spent all my money on stocks...

Well,

I don't have both. I just have a sage EBR USMC M39 - Coyote Brown. Holds my all USGI M1A in it. I just got the S&B 3-12x50 P4 reticle for it.

When all is said and done, it will be an exact clone of the USMC M39 EMR(Enhanced Marksman Rifle) - it replaced the McMillan M2A DMR stock(which is being built for me as we speak - should arrive in Sept.

I'll be dropping my Norinco into that so I'll also have a DMR clone as well - gonna be a present for my fiance - her first firearm, when she gets her PAL.

Do ya think I like USMC rifles?:D

So as to the Sage, I love it - definitely one of my keepers!

Cheers, Carl

can you give us some costs? i always liked the look of the JAE

I was shopping for cheapest M14 and planed to keep it all stock with iron sights. One day I bumped into second hand SAGE at 800$. From then on details are fuzzy, all I remember is me pulling credit card, talking nonsense and driving home hugging my new toy.

Seriously, its about 675$ for rifle with scope mount, taxes and shipping + 800 for stock (which you will never find at this price) and scope that I mercilessly taken off my other project.

JAE came to me from another CGN'r for an acceptable cost, I think all-new JAE will be somewhere close to 800$ as well. Say, 16 hundred for brand nu package without upgrades.

Pictures coming tonight if I won't get lazy.

"...accuracy-wise which one will win?..." Neither. Scopes do not make a rifle more accurate. They only allow you to see the target better. If the rifle doesn't shoot well to start with, scoping it won't help.
"...Ammo will be cheapest Federal 150gr factory..." It may or may not shoot well out of your rifles. You'll have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your rifles shoot best. And you'll have to do this for each rifle. The cost of said ammo means nothing either. Both or 'em may shoot the Federal ammo well, or one will and not the other or neither.
You may have to look at the bedding for each stock too.

sunray, I know the theory. I mentioned scopes just so you know what compete against what. Ammo - I am planning to reload so each rifle eventually will have a load developed. For now I am still recovering from financial drain, I got those two babies in one month. So, two boxes of Federal thats it.

Bedding - I do not think there is anything to bed on M14. JAE has some kind of titanium lugs that suck receiver in very tight. SAGE is also very solid piece and receiver sits tight.

You are correct. There is nothing to bed on either of these stocks. They are built to eliminate the need.

tie. Both are at around 1.4MOA or so and difference is very indistinctive. Which one do I keep... Now I am in real trouble cuz I want to keep both.

Sage gets my vote! It just looks and feels solid in your hands - like it's ready to do some serious business.

Jae is nice as well, but it isn't used by the USMC! Can ya tell I like USMC rifles!

Enjoy em anyways.

Carl

I prefer the SAGE.
It's simple and robust.
The SAGE is battle proven.

The JAE is nice, but it has way too many small
parts and it ends up being heavier than the SAGE.

I prefer the Sage also, the Mod1 though. That way you get to pick your choice of stock. I have a Marstar and I can't complain, the rails are out of spec, but the thing is balls accurate! Also nice that you don't need a $300 scope mount with the Marstar. With non-USGI extractors though, the low scope mount of the Marstar will jam your weapon, but I fixed that by adding "relief" cuts to the Marstar scope mount section. See below.

Below is a recent range report of the M1A/Marstar vs an AR-10-SuperSASS

--------------------
Had to re-zero my weapon after buying a new scope mount. Fired about 300 rounds of South African + another 20 rounds of Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr HPBT. About 110 degrees today with a 20mph cross wind. This particuliar range is basically my home range and almost always has 20mph cross winds! It is about 10 miles from Lake Mead and Hoover Dam.

Here is the mount I just bought for my AR-10 SuperSASS, American Defense Recon.

Here is me with my Armalite AR-10 SuperSASS
BRP1-vi.jpg

Also had to zero the M1A (in Marstar stock), bought a SuperSniper from SWFA.
marstar24-vi.jpg

Zero Distance will be 100 yards.
BRP8-vi.jpg

Only had 20 rounds of Federal Gold Medal Match, Here is what 10 rounds with the M1A did. My first 3 shots where horrible, but I settled down for the next 7. There was 20 mph crosswind, so you got to figure the wind blew those bad rounds off target ;)
BRP5-vi.jpg

Here is what the AR-10 SuperSASS did with FGMM. I was on my way to a 1 inch 10 shot group then the last shot was a low flyer and turned my 1" group into a 2" group .. Oh well. I can't afford to shoot FGMM too much, if I was a rich guy that's all I would shoot.
I have 500 bullets of 168gr SMK's, so better yet, it's time to start making my own match load (half the price of FGMM)
BRP6-vi.jpg

After Zeroing it is time to go to the metal gongs. This range has gongs at 200, 300, 400, 500, 600.. and one that goes all the way out to 1000 yards! Once I figured out the bullet drop of TMR reticle on the Leupold, and the windage from the 20 mph cross wind, I had no problems consistently hitting the 600 yard gong (in the shape of an actual size goat)
BRP7-vi.jpg

Will be shooting from the prone position, just like the snipers do in COD4 on the Xbox. Lucky for us, this part of the range has cover, so the cement was nice and cool.
BRP3-vi.jpg

Another view of the metal gongs
targets-vi.jpg

Here is my duty belt. This belt has a knife, holster, complete First Aid Kit, and a utility pouch for such items such as keys and cameras. This is the same belt I wear when playing COD4 on the Xbox. When I don't have my duty belt, molle vest, and a side arm locked and loaded when playing COD4, I don't do as good.
BRP4-vi.jpg

An area near the range. If you look close enough you can see me in the pic (on the bed cover of the truck). This concludes the day at range, all in all a good day. Zero'd two weapons, and shot about 300 rounds total. Dam if you think about it, that's $150+ for today's ammo prices.

Long time no see H20man!

Those Sage of yours look ultra sweet. I like the black one, but the Navy one looks pretty cool too.

How are you liking that Aimpoint Micro? That seems to be a perfect optic for the Sage.

Out of all the AR buttstocks, I like the LMT Sopmod the best, but always felt is was too low for the Sage, but with the Aimpoint Micro it looks like the perfect combo.

Also do you still have your Troy stocks? Do you still prefer Troy over Sage?
