It's a very rare occurance...and is not an initiative that is supported by IPSC Ontario...

What's to stand up for. The whole thread is a big joke. Those guys are just kidding around, angling for a reaction. I mean who would take any one from outside of Ontario seriously anyway?? :D
 
I think there was a level 2 in the RA centre, a long time time, where I was offered a free slot, because I was an M at the time (this was before GMs, in Ontario). I declined, and wanted to pay like everyone else. They were doing it to attract Ms to show up, so the matches would be classifiers, I think, but I thought it might contribute to the elitism thing which others mentioned here, so I didn't want that... I thought it was very nice of them to offer, but I chose to decline.

I think that it would be wrong for an organization to FORBID something like this, each club/MD/etc should be free to set those types of policies, but everyone should also be aware that too much of that, for the wrong reasons, can contribute to morale issues, elitism, etc, etc... So my comments are:

a) should GMs expect to get a free ride? Hell no.

b) should clubs be forbidden to offer GMs a free ride? Hell no.

Too many different circumstances, I think, to create one carved-in-stone policy.

Maybe we could issue cards like at the car wash or coffee shop. You know, buy five and the next one is free. It could be part of the welcome package we send out to newly minted GMs. That's the ticket. :D

Oh come on. What's the point of Ontario, Toronto, or Ottawa if not to make fun of? What about the Newfies?

But seriously, I don't see why a GM should be getting a free ride. The other shooters aren't there to watch the GM shoot. And chances are the GM will get a trophy anyways.

If anyone should be getting a free ride it should be new shooters. Get your Black Badge and the few first matches are on us! Get more shooters into the sport. They are the future. (heard that one before?) Every year a few shooters quit and we need more new shooters to keep the sport growing.
