After doing some filing to the mag a little I found that it was feeding much better.

A little later I was putting a few more empty hulls thru to check something else and noticed that the action would not lock closed, that I could pump it open with out pulling the trigger or pushing the action release.

There is some resistance to the pump, but it does not positively lock closed, opens with out forcing.

Any ideas?

If the trigger is not cocked it will put pressure against the bolt and the action bars will most likely not lock properly.

Are the action bars bent...are they in the receiver properly ?

Do a function check after you figure it out.

  1. Point the shotgun in a safe direction.
  2. Depress the action bar lock and cycle the action. The action should cycle smoothly. This ensures the action bars are not bent.
  3. Close the action, put the safety on, and pull the trigger. The hammer must not fall.
  4. With the action closed, safety off, pull the trigger and hold it to the rear while cycling the action. Release the trigger and pull it. The hammer must fall. This check ensures the hammer is properly engaging the sear.

I am assuming that the empty hulls you were feeding were once fired already? they are probably a hair larger than unfired, creating some resistance. I know that some mossberg 500's need to be more than hand tight on the nut at the end of the mag tube in order to function properly. Good luck

All check.

The action bars are not bent, but there does seam to be some play in them, there seams to be enough room in the slots on the slide plate for it to move inwards a little slipping pass the action lock, maybe a slight bend outwards on the one will keep it from slipping inside the lock.

and zthou the issue , is no resistance during feeding, the gun cycles just fine and very smooth when releasing the lock or after a trigger pull, the only resistance is the action bar binding on the action lock, can see that today with the day light.
