One stop shopping does at times make a lot of sense. I've done that myself. By the time you factor in gunsmithing, time, inconvenience etc it's often less expensive to just get what you want out of the box. I'm also willing to pay a little more for the pure convenience.

If you want the Tactical rifle then go for it.

That being said I happen to like the Sako TRG-22 or TRG-42 a lot better than the Tikka. I haven't fired either, so this isn't based off actual experience. I just happen to really prefer the looks of the stock and the overall quality/look of the Sako. Plus their reputation is fantastic. The price though is also extremely high.

I know which one I'd get ;).

Why all the garbage advice based on false assumptions. I have no range buddies. I have hunted for 37 years. The Tikka comes all fitted out and it is easy to not have to jerk around with a new stock. The varmint model may make sense but there is no easily fitted muzzle brake. The tactical would be one stop shopping rather than having to receive a lecture from some lil man with limited education who uses words like tacticool.

Well, Junior, read the post. I wasn't quoting you but someone else. I was referring to them. Hey, fill your boots, I don't give a hoot what you buy. Best of luck with whatever you do.

Lil man with limited education? Pfft! Whatever. If you've hunted for 37 years it must have been with a spear because you come off as a total noob.

While the (2) aren't even remotely comparable, you're absolutely right.

LOL You are a genius.:)

I don't understand why all the bitterness about the Tactical? Compared to many rifles it's priced nicely for what you get-- a sub moa shooter with nice features in an all black colour-- what's wrong with that?
Everyone is always so worried about getting "ripped off" that they get a little crazy. I get caught up in it myself sometimes I have to admit, and the truth about it is that I only get wound up because I wish price wasn't an issue for me too! So that means that I feel jealous and that breeds this attitude of resentment, which is totally unfair. The people who have these expensive rifles aren't bad people or stupid, they have earned the money to buy the nice things and I'm sure they don't feel ripped off or silly for buying them, most often they're extremely happy with their purchase.
You only get one chance to live your life, and it's only money afterall... sheesh.
Enjoy your Tactical there, Mackillan, or TRG or whatever you decide to go with in the end. I'll be over here green with envy :D

If you've bought one and your completely satisfied with it, then good for you. The whole point is that there ARE other alternatives that in some cases far superior to what the Tik Tak offers. Some people see that, others unfortunately do not, or just don't care.

Personally, I think it is totally fair to point out alternative suggestions etc. I just put together a Tikka Varmint combo because it was my first Tikka and I didn't feel like going the whole hog on a Tikka Tactical but I sure welcomed the suggestions I got ( except for the "this thread is useless with out pics" one ) and if I was buying something else I'd be happy to hear alternative possibilities - that's one of the reasons for joining a site like this is it not ? So, we can tap into collective knowledge and ( sometimes ) wisdom.

Tikka is one of, if not the smoothest actions I have ever had the opportunity to shoot. I have a good friend here on CGN who is very much into rifles and he has the Tactical the Varmint and the Super Varmint, I have yet to see the differance in quality, the Tactical does have the built in rail, that can be had from CyberK for a very minimal cost for the Varmint or the Super varmint and the Tactical is threaded for the break, which in my opinion is silly for a .223 or .308, I never really saw the need for that unless you have an extra $200 buck burning a hole in your pocket you had nothing better to do with. If you want a Tikka and can live without the break, get the Varmint, an EGW base from Cyberk, pick up a falcon scope from him right away, get yourself a nice set of tactical rings, like TPS or the new Burris ones, a Harris bipod, and you will still not be as much as the base Tactical.

One thing with the Tik Tac muzzle brake, you'd better be wearing ear protection.

For our Military Rifle shoots out here in the "open sniper class", my son has a Tik Tac in .308 with the muzzle break.
The brake does an exc job, you don't even need to hold onto the rifle. The only thing is the muzzle blast. If you are beside him, the blast slaps you in the face & rattles your teeth. It is so bad from the side that we sometimes put up a barrier beside him.

I also had a Tik Tac in .308, but sold it to build a Vietnam War era Remington M40 clone. It is made up from a new SPS Varmit, a plain walnut stock with a 1966 Redfield scope. It shoots as good as the Tikka, but the action is not as smooth & it only holds 4 rnds compared to the Tik Tacs 5. A bit of a pain when shooting 5 rnd timed strings.

He also shoots a T3 Lite in .300WSM for hunting.

The Tikkas have the smoothest action I have ever owned & I like the detachable mag.
If I ever have some $$$ to blow, I's love to get a Tik Tac in .300 WM.

Another guy at our shoots has the Sako TRG in .300WM. It has a brake on it & is not bad to shoot, but alot more $$$ than the Tikka.

The only problem I have encountered with the Tik Tac is the screw on the brake busting after about 300 rnds. It comes loose from recoil & after tightening it a few times, the bolt stretches & breaks. I don't like to put Lock Tite on it as we take it off for hunting .
