moose call

Better yet, watch "The Rackman" DVD's. S.I.R. sells them.

I have #4 & #5 . Some very interesting hunting and calling on those. I have pretty much all the Shockey stuff and I would recommend the Rackman DVD's over anything on the Shockey DVD's.

Jim is my new boss.......sorry, it was a shameless plug I tried to give:D;)

At least you know how to pick a boss because it is quite evident that Shockey cant pick a good guide if he hired you :p :D :D

When are you comin down for a visit? I need James to come kill all of my gophers :sniper:

lol lol..........aint it the truth? It was between me and another guy and the other guy died. And I STILL wasn't sure Id get the job....:D

James is going to camp at AHEIA Alford Lake in August......gonna learn to shoot an arrow and row a canoe, stuff i cant teach him. I think its west of Caroline.

He would be there in a heartbeat. Right now he is in the garage with the door half open with his pellet gun. He has a piece of bread at the end of the driveway and is trying to bait a magpie with it............

Last year I got a bull LEH up here in northern BC. I spent 2 months before the hunt imitating what guys were doing on youtube.
Did my time in the bush, on about the 18th day out I called this guy in from about 400 yards to about 100 where I took the shot. I think the important thing is it doesn't have to sound perfect, you just have to time it out realistically inbetween calls. The first time I went deer hunting with a call I got all excited and blew that thing so hard it sounded like a duck call.

Nice bull.
I still remember my first attempt at calling. It was getting dark, and up to that point, I had avoided calling because I figured I wasn't good enough yet.
I figured what the hell, I had only a couple of minutes left of legal light, and no bull tag anyway, so I cupped my hands and tried a simple grunt.
There was a tremendous crash from the bush only a few yards away, where apparently a small bull had been hiding all along. He came out on the beaver meadow I was watching and made straight for me.
I looked around, no trees big enough, he's at 25 yards, can see me clearly, and is still coming. I waved my arms at him and said something stupid like 'Hi bull'. He stopped and turned sideways. He was so close at that point I could easily have chucked Gatehouse's spear through him.
He ambled forward a few feet, and looked at me again, then took off at a walk across the swamp.
When I was feeling a bit braver, I called again, and he stopped twice to look back at me.
I've been calling ever since.

A moose call doesn't need to be expensive. If you're like me and can't voice call them, get a 2 pound coffee can, punch a small hole in the center of the bottom and run a piece or cord through the hole. All sorts of moose sounds can be created when you pull the cord back and forth.

It is important to wet the string first, then squeeze the thing so the moisture content is just right. Those calls work.

For sure the best is just to pinch your nostrils by cupping your hands and make short plaintive, quavering calls. A moose has astonishing hearing. They do not need to be too loud and I think shorter calls are better.

The reality is that anything that produces a positive response is okay. Location and method are more important then what the call sounds like. I know a lot of guys that make excellent moose calls, yet don't call in many moose and it's because they don't set up in the right spot or they leave too soon.

Patience is the most important thing, when calling moose.

No matter how sick you're vocal calling ability is...here's a call that's hard to go wrong with.Go to you're local slaughterhouse right now and beg, borrow or steal a steer's shoulder blade so it will be nice and dry for September.Beat, whack and thrash birch saplings with same...produces an incredibly realistic sound of a raking bull.In lieu of shoulder blade,an old dry canoe paddle works excellent.Having witnessed many a real bull raking and listening to my partner raking with a paddle from 300 yards away,I can't distiguish any difference? We've also called in more than one hunter over the years from several hundred yards away,LOL.Can't blame them....I know it's a hoax and still it makes my hair stand on end listening from a distance.Rattling for moose .....it works!
