Hey Guys,

I am looking for a good recomendation for a Red Dot sight for my H&K SL8, I have been looking at Bushnell and some of the Leaper options. Has anyone used these or have any other brands to look at. I am looking to spend about $200 so as far as I can tell some of the ACOGS and fancy stuff is more then I want to spend.

Thanks.

I would not put a red dot on a SL-8. Its a precision rifle that deserves a good scope. Mostly the dots are too large to take advantage of the accuracy that a precision rifle such as this has.

If the choice is between Bushnell and Leaper then Bushnell would be my choice. IIRC, at one point the Bushnell and Eotech's were tied at the hips for certain models. Buuuut I would try and pickup an Aimpoint or Eotech, you may find a used one for a few bucks more.

I also agree with 55recce about getting a decent scope for your 2000+$ rifle.

I agree for sure that I need a better scope on the rifle but I extended myself to purchase the rifle and need to put something on it so i can shoot it. So at the moment that means getting a cheaper scope to start getting used to the rifle and shoot it while I save up for the next purchase.

If you want to save up for a decent scope, why bother blowing $200 on a red dot? A red dot really isn't SL8 material.

Save your money, buy an el-cheapo Bushnell 3-9x and slap it on until you've saved enough for a real scope. You can get one for well under $200. It may not hold zero on a .50 cal but this is just a .223.

It's not in Canada, but you get the idea. ~$50, you get 9x magnification, (in reality, 6 or 7x is about as far as it goes without distorting), and you get to put a big chunk of the $200 toward a better scope. (You may be a quarter of the way there doing it this way.)

From what I hear, the Bushnell holosite/sight has pretty much the same internals as the Eotech.

and 2x for getting a quality scope on your new rifle.

Then don't answer him.

To answer the question, if you're looking for a temporary solution, pickup something used on the EE. Any old red-dot will do, and you'll get something for a lot less than $200. Then, when you're ready to move up, sell it for what you paid and get the scope that you always wanted (like a Bushnell 3200 or Leupold, etc.).

Of the two you mentioned, the Bushnells are a lot better - crisper clicks and better optics.

Thanks for the information, I am going to look at the Bushnell Red Dots as well as some of the lower end Bushnell optic scopes as mentioned.

Get a Bushnell 3200 scope. There are lots on the exchange forum and BTW I have a brand new one for sale PM if you want details.

They are around the $200 mark and would serve you better than a red dot

buying red dot as cost saving measure doesn't make sence. You can get really inexpensive scopes for some 80$ and never look back. You can have Fitco 6-24x50 with illuminated mildot reticle for that price.

Red dot is about 6 to 10 inches at 100 yards, if your rilfe shoot under 2MOA that group and the target will be completely covered with red dot. In other words, you will be guessing where you are shooting. They are good for shotguns and CQB types. SL8 is neither one of them.

If you still want a red dot then buy either really good one like aimpoint or go with really cheap/used one. There is no difference in quality between them, red dot is a red dot, but expensive ones retain some kind of resell value.

I guess I should have looked a little deaper at scope prices before I set myself on a Red Dot, I have been looking at the 3200 line of the Bushnell and I think I can make something in that line work.
Anyone have any experience with the 3200 line and what would you recommend.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation. I was going to buy the combo scope/red dot/carry handle rig made for the SL8. Anyone have an opinion of that?

I actually put the ACOG copy/ Bushnell Trophy on my SL8 and like it quite a bit.

No problem putting the shots on target in a hurry, which is what I was after for it, instead of 1 inch groups.
