Can anyone tell me if this mount will will fit properly in the M305? Is this mount any good? I have access to a good used one for a decent price at my fav gun shop.

Actually if I had bothered to read the sticky about scope mounts at the top of the forum first I would have known the answer to my question. I would still like to here from anyone that is using this mount or might have used it already...

I have one on mine and it fits fine. Is it the best mount? No according to our M305 gurus, but hey if the price is right then why not.

'Decent price' should be around $100-$125. If it's more than that, there are better scope mounts out there.

I had one on my 305 and had ZERO issues. Just make sure you loctite the nuts, and you're fine.

The Springfield mounts have a piece on the side of them that you "drive" into a slot in the reciever, once the mount has been on and off a few times this breaks off.
If the mount you are looking at is used, there is a good chance you will not be able to secure the mount reliably on your rifle.

The Gen 3 mounts sell new for $135.00 here
Personally the Smith mount is 10 times the better mount in my opinion, but 3 times the $$

thank you for letting me know about that, going to take a look at a SA tomorrow and I will look for that. I was thinking about the Smith mount but not in the cards price wise right this second... down the road the money will be there to replace it whatever inexpensive mount I get with a Smith mount... right now I just want to get out and play with my rifle...

Has anybody tried a SOCOM type rail with a Cartridge Clip Guide Scope Mount Base?

Springfield 3rd Generation mounts are designed to mate with the first rifle they are installed on. A lot of people don't take the time to acutally mate the mount to the rifle the first time they install it and this can lead to issues.

I would never recommend buying a used SA 3rd gen mount.

Springfield gen 3

I have used one for years on several rifles and never had a problem.
EXCEPT - it did loosen occasionally . You just have to check the knobs for tightness once in a while (I never used lock tite on them) and never reefed them down for fear of breaking a thread.
