Evening gents, in this thread, I'd like to discuss what I'd like to own in terms or a neat hunting/target gun in the "scared liberal" variety. I first looked at the Colt AR-15, but I quickly learned of new calibers - specifically the 6.5mm Grendel. I also read up on the gas piston action. All of this brings me to my main issues.
Can I have a rifle that fires this caliber, and if so, can I install a gas piston?
I know most of the time, things do not happen as if on paper. From what I have learned, the 6.5mm is so similar to the 5.56 that it can be fed from existing AR-15 magazines, and there are conversion kits for that caliber. I have also learned that gas piston kits fit normal AR-15 type rifles. I would simply like to know if this is possible in real life, and where I might obtain the right parts to make this a reality.
