Well for some reason I seem to shoot better with the BUIS on my AR than the EoTech.

My problem is that I shoot dead on with the small aperature but if I use the large aperature I shoot about 2-3 inches left.

What's my problem? Cheek weld, eyesight, god hates me?

First of all, God is not a proven entity so we won't worry about that which we cannot confirm nor control. Second, your cheek weld and the consistency of such could be an issue. I would start with the EoTech. If your groups are better with irons all variables the same(position, distance, time to setup the shot) I would say you might have an issue with the optic. Check the mount and ensure it is tightened correctly.

The problem with the small/large aperture is most likely you and your perceived centering of the front sight in the larger aperture. The other possibility could be that you are canting the rifle(holding the rifle at the 11 o'clock or 10 o'clock position) which is not the position in which the sights were zeroed or were intended to be used.

Seeing how you're making hits with the small aperture, Its safe to say your irons are probably zeroed. It wouldn't hurt to re-zero them as a precaution.

OK, but I still think she hates me. :D

I think you may be on to something with the canting issue. I'll have someone watch me shoot next time. I also noticed with the small aperature the front sight looked sharp (like shooting a pistol) but the front sight was blurry for me with the large aperature.

I just mounted the BUIS yesterday and sighted it in. Only 50m mind you but it wasn't uncomon to have 2-3 of the five round string touching. The EoTech is fine, I was just suprised I shot the irons even better.

Could be a patience thing. I sometimes find I shoot faster, but somewhat sloppier with red dot sights. I see the dot, I see the dot on target, woohoo!, I pull the trigger. With the iron sights, I see the target, I patiently line up the sights, I double check to make sure I'm dead centre, then I pull the trigger. Subconscious reflex to to extra care lining up the irons? Who knows.. maybe a call back to when I first learned to shoot.

This is what I was referring to. Red Dots are easy to use and therefore as a shooter one tends to get sloppy in their sight picture, squeeze, follow through etc. Keep in mind that even though the EoTech will "compensate" for your lack of consistency with regards to cheek weld, the optic is not 100% parallax free. It is after all a combat optic. Trying to remain consistent with your optic like you do with your irons will greatly improve your groups.
