what's the maximum legal magazine capacity for shotguns? i should know this, but i don't. i'm sorry for such a stupid question.

i know we're limited to 5 for centerfire rounds. shotgun is center fire, therefore we would be limited to 5 rounds. however, i've seen some magazines pushing 10 and 20 rounds for shotguns as well as people talking about magazine extensions, which would allow 6 in the tube i believe.

what am i missing?

It depends on what you are doing. Federal reg class it as a center fire gun and that puts the limit at 5- 4 in the mag and one in the chamber but only for target.

If you are hunting I know that at least in Sask the max is 3- 2+1

WRONG! Except for the hunting statement.

%rds in the mag for semi and unlimited for slide and bolt.

Also should add that there are some exceptions to the rule for semi autos. If a magazine that was designed for a pistol could fit in a rifle you could have 10 rds in the mag if used in a rifle. Take the LAR-15 AR mag. You always use what the mag was designed to fit in. Not really applicable to shotguns but just a FYI

This is about shotguns and not rifles.
