Thanks to Mad Dog for stickying this again.

Alright folks, lets get organzined. Our 2008 CGN shoot was quite a success, despite the rain. I think everyone who came will agree. It's now time to start organizing the 2009 trip. It's well in advance so anyone interested should have no trouble arranging the time off. Our last shoot was held West of Swift current on private property. We might be able to arrange the same area again, as I'm sure there's still a critter or two roaming those fields.

Our trip this year was in June, and we were probably as close to the perfect time as possible for it. However, I feel it is best if we bump it up a week or two, to late May, early June. It has been suggested we extend the trip to make it a bit longer. This can be discussed further, but we can still use a weekend, or long weekend as our base time frame, and extend it foward or back from there.

Any suggestions or comments are welcome, and we would be glad to hear all of them. So lets get this thing rolling, a year goes by fast and nows the perfect time to get started.

I'm definately going to try to make it next year. I'm only about 125 KM from Tompkins so i should be able to make it. Sounds like you guys had a good time this year.

ohhh ya

you know Ill be there.. and the raffle and charity thing sounds ok but we need an for sure headcount on the size, This year there was so many ghophers that my thumb got so sore from reloading the clip that I just sat and watched them run around till i got feeling back in my thumb till i could load up again. AWESOME TIME. Can't wait till next year.

just means you need to buy more clips or larger clips so you can go longer between reloads and keep a feeling thumb around. LOL!

I'm in, and if possible let's see if we can make it longer than two days, it's a long way to go for two days especially if the weather doesn't cooperate. a longer stay could be optional but in any event I'll start loading/buying shells tomorrow. Captain, maybe even join you with a 12 GA. Charity sounds good, also, let's plan on a good bar-b-q on one night and of course I'll bring the fruit for my drink!!

Just copied and brought this over from the other thread. Don't mind me, just passing through...

This years dates worked well for me, but you're the guys on the ground so I'll go with your suggestion. Personally I'd like to make it a longer trip, but as you've stated, we can start with a weekend and then go from there. The area we shot this year was fine, but again I'm open to any changes as long as we don't go tooo much farther East. As long as there's squeeks, sunshine and CGNr's it'll be great

Well, you know Jacquie and I are in. Just name the date and we'll book holidays. We'd definitely like a longer event, say 4 days or more, up to a week. After this year's shoot we did some more shooting on private land and had a ball. Of course it was much more fun shooting with the CGN group.

We weren't even home yet from this year's shoot and I had started buying equipment in anticipation of the next outing. So far we have some nice bipods and a varmint scope or two. Hopefully there will be a new rifle too. Jacquie will soon have a thumbhole stock on her 700. Tripalm got me so jealous of his equipment (and fruity beer.) Of course I wanted at least one of what everyone alse had; hopped up 10/22, CZ858, tactical shotguns and the like.

It's amazing how shooting rodents can cause you to spend tons of money.

We've told a lot of non-hunters about this year's trip and showed around a few pictures. Everyone thinks it is pretty cool. I'm sure I could add several people to the Winnipeg contingent of gopher slayers headed West.

To anyone who hasn't done this before you can expect all kinds of fun shooting. Everything from several feet to hundreds of yards. Shooting gophers out at 200 yards is incredibly difficult but tons of fun.

Here's a link to the pictures and stories from this year's event:

Andrewe, does this mean I have to buy more toys?? It'll be a struggle and certainly not something I'm looking forward to but I will make the sacrifice;):):D

Well Tripalm, if it comes down to it, I'll just start reloading my .243 cartridges with $20 bills. Top that!

Seriously though. I really enjoyed seeing what everyone else was shooting. Your scope really got me interested. I ended up buying a Bushnell 3200 with a very similar reticle. Unfortunately I don't have a spare rifle to put it on. I'll have to do something about that.

After paying for the gas to get to the shoot we stopped at the Honda dealership before we even got home and bought a hybrid. Gas savings = more rifles.

today was my first time in the Swift Current area shooting gophers and I am hooked. The land owner said that we probably wouldn't see much because it was too hot and they would be pretty tough to find so we only shot 40 in about two hours going into 4 different fields, he said that he can usually get that in half an hour in one spot in May.

I am planning to come back down next spring.
