Just got a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .223 Rem to compliment my M700P .308 Win. Still waiting for my 30mm rings, but I grabbed a bunch of different ammo for precision shooting. I grabbed mostly Federal 69gr. & 77gr., but will alos try different target loads to see the difference.

I will most likely do most of my target practice at 200 yards, but will occasionally get out to 500 yards - 1000 yards. Will the .223 Rem in Federal match 77 gr. reach out accuratley to 800 yards + ???

Federal AE ................55 gr. FMJ-BT
Winchester USA .........62 gr. FMJ-BT
Federal GM Match.......69 gr. BTHP
Federal GM Match.......77 gr. BTHP

looks like a good day of shooting,in regards to the last picture, did you atleast take the trigger lock off of the ar and let dear ole dad shoot it?:slap:

I wouldnt let him shoot anything without a lot more instruction. He was holding every rifle backwards.

The Federal ammo uses Sierra Match King BTHP bullets, loaded to a Mvel of 2700fps

I use a Rem700P, 1:9 twist and load my own 77gn SMK hand loads, Mvel 2800 fps.

I have used these at ORA matches out to 800 yards, as long as the wind is not too bad they perform very well. Obviously these light bullets cannot compete with heavier bullets when it comes to strong winds, but I have been quite happy with their performance. Given the slight difference in velocity I am sure the federal loads would also be fine at 800 yards

You might want to check the twist of your barrel, I have one of the early ones and it wont stabilize anything more than 55gr. Although I did hear somewhere that they changed to a faster twist later on in production.

Nice rifle. You should be good if your twist is 1 in 8, or 1 in 9. I have heard good things about Federal and Remington 69-77 gr. The Rem 77 gr is even preferred, try it out in your rifle, each one is different. Rem 77 gr BTHP has a book muzzle vel. of 2788 fps, at 200 yrds its 2303 and at 500 yrds, its 1675 fps. Long range has it zeroed at 200 yrds, -8.5" at 250 yrd, -36.1" at 500 yrds. Only way to tell, is go out, and have some fun!
