The STEEL-I would have been a more suitable comparison to the P226ST.

You also neglected to mention what is the intended purpose of your choice. People buy different guns for different reasons from hand fit preference, to historical/service etc etc...

I like the Steel-I and would say in SAO trigger. Has thinner grip than regular 92(because of steel frame), frame-mounted safety and the SAO version has an adjustable trigger.

...but I have a P226ST and love it too. The P226ST is much more common.

Correct, the 92 Inox series have aluminum recievers and may have a finish on the slide as well. They still look great though. I like my 96 Inox alot.

Well, I owned both 92 Inox & 226ST, so I think I'm qualified to give my opinion. Both are quality guns and I still have the Beretta, but traded the Sig... Basically it was more reliable of the two. I might get another 226 at some point, but may aslo get rid of my P220ST...

Out of those two choices, I'd go with a P226ST. However, if I were you, I would consider a two tone, aluminum frame P226. It points better, has better balance and is simply more fun to shoot than the ST in my opinion.

I think the original poster is torn between the Beretta and the SIG. Other makes/models were not offered.

It's the Gun Nut way. Ignore the original posters choices and suggest he get the same gun you own.

I want a stainless 9mm, and I'm torn, hoping you can help.

So....which one, and why?

You forgot a third choice: Buy both:D

I am exactly in the same position as you. I had to choose between a P226 or a 92FS and i deceide to buy both. I will check for the best deal available at the moment and beggin to save money to buy the other later.

Be safe

My 226ST has never had a misfed or issue in around 6,000+ rds, the trigger is very nice now and just a damm good gun. That being said the DA trigger out of the box takes about 400 rds to smooth out.
