Buying an Over under shotgun. What should I get.

I wouldn't worry too much about screw-in chokes. Full/Mod chokes will make him a better shot.;) For a dedicated skeet gun, open chokes are better. But for trap, ducks, geese, etc. the fixed will be fine.

That is true in a way. But a gun with screw in chokes will be much more versatile.

I agree with Doug the Canuck. Fit-fit-fit like in real estate with location. Don't spend serious money on a shotgun until you have handled it and threw it to your shoulder many many times; even better would be to shoot it if possible. An expensive shotgun that doesn't fit you properly creates all kinds of problems......wTc

I just got a CZ this spring and I love it. I traded a Stoeger semi auto for the CZ and it improved my shooting ten fold. Mine is the woodcock just under $1300 but the redhead is just over $1000, basically the same gun but less fancy. It comes with 5 choke tubes and extractors, no regrets here. However I am a very casual shotgunner, for sure no professional. :)

Superposed

$700 for a good to excellent condition superposed seems like a hell of a deal to me.

The Superposed (IMHO) has a little more cache and history to it than a citori. They are both great guns along with the beretta's. If you are looking to buy something that will have heirloom quality and be passed down I would stick with either the browings (citori or superposed) or the beretta 686/687 series.

OR... you could look at some classics like winchester 21 SXS's, LC Smith SXS, Winchester 101's (original version), maybe a parker or Fox. Just throwing out some other options to think about.

He can always get screw in chokes installed later by a competent gunsmith if he really wants them.

Good luck in your search, and let us know what you decide on.

Where have you seen a Winchester 21 for a thousand bucks?

If screw in chiokes are a requirement get a new manufacture Citori. If you can live with Full/Modified get an older model Citori, a 101 or, if you're lucky enough to find one, a Superposed.

A thousand bucks eh? A used Citori with fixed chokes, thats damm close to new is possible with that kind of money... Any Superpoesed thats presentable as a gift will cost you more than a grand. Not 100% sure about a 101 but I would think the same as a Superposed. Beretta's & Weatherby's you don't see as many used, but also good choice. IF you can find em at your price. As someone also pointed out if it doesn't fit him, you might as well have bought him a hockey stick....

Good advice, besides if your brother doesn't like it, you get to keep it and buy him something for $1k :)

Thanks for the advertisement, guys :D

bigbore, I know you're an HBC member as well, and I think you live around where I am. If you're serious, I can cut you a deal. I can show you the gun on PoCo also if you'd like. Shoot me a PM. :)
