Has anyone used the purple 8 pettel downrange manufacturing wads. They are a replacement for a 1oz Winchester wad. I just bought 5000 and I am having a few issues. Problems good or bad ?? I am sure with some fiddling I can get them to work but I was wondering if anyone else has used them.

Downrange

Hi I used up a sample lot and did not seem to have any problem but only 25 lot sample.
What are you having problems with?
Don

I am loading 18 grains of promo in a Winchester AA hull and the it is getting the crimp to that "factory finish" is where the problem lies. It does appear that 1 oz of shot fills the wad really full. So I put some wad pressure on it and I wouldn't say it did a ton but it helped. I adjusted my 'first crimp" so that the hole is about less than 1/4". The problem is that I am ending up with a bigger hole in the middle of the final shell than I want. The crimp just isn't tight. I am going to play around with it some more, chrony those loads and maybe reduce my powder charge. I will get it right sooner or later.

Yes I did, thanks for asking. I used a nickle to push my pre-crimp down and let off a bit of wad pressure. Furthermore I backed off my final crimp.
The big difference was that I Chrony'd the load with 18 grains and it was going about 1300 + fps so I cut back on the powder and now it all fits nicely. My 1 oz load is going about 1200 fsp and it is soft hitting.

However, I just bought a Beretta 682 Gold X trap.....the Browning is going to go up for sale...I will get to try it on Monday. I can't wait.

I have only shot it 6 times ( 47/50 Wednesday in singles ) and today I ran 25 straight in singles and then shot a 22. It fits like a glove and I love it but if I don't sell my Browning XT soon my wife is going to beat me with it :kickInTheNuts: :)

i would like to try some of those wads, did you get them from Barry D. by any chance?

No but I knew he was using them. I got mine down in the states and they are 1oz. BD is probably using 11/8oz wads, with that Perazzi of his he feels no recoil :)

Ummm seeing where you are from I think we shoot together quite often.....

Lucky guess, ha ha. Barry had a bunch of cases of down Range wads that he bought back to sell and the purple one ounce wad was just one of the types he has. Heard from Don that you have been shooting your new beretta very well. Hope you have a nice soft reoil pad on that XT if your going to get crowned with it.

I think I sold the XT to Cliff so my head is safe. I like the purple downrange wad but I have found it sneaks up the hull about an 1/8 " now and again after the shot has been loaded. why....I have no idea. I don't think I am using too much powder and it only happens about every 6-7 shells....not sure what I am going to do but I will work it out.
