Recently we've had sitings of barrenland Grizz's or brown bears as they call'em here. I found out from our local HTO(hunters/trappers Org) that we're allowed to take 5 of them in our region. Has anyone shot a barrenland bear? Pics? I've never seen one, only nanuqs(polar bear) here so I'm curious as to what size they may become? I think I'm going for a good ol'tour this weekend and take look out on the land ... :D;)

I'm not sure how big they get, but they do exist. My older brother lives in Churchill and sent me these pics last summer of a grizz here in Manitoba. To say the least I was shocked, I'd have never guessed that they ventured this far. Not great pictures, as they were in an airplane when he took them. They'd have got better shots if they were in helicopter.

awesome pics bronco mudder ... yeah I'm curious how big they get ... I know a couple here that were just recently stalked by one and it followed them for quite a while as they took off on their ATV honda 4x4 ... DOH ... :D Looks like I'll be going outland for a tour to see ... long weekend is coming!

Wow, that's the first I've ever heard of one in Manitoba....cool pics. I've seen loads of them further north. They are typically smaller than their southern cousins but have a bit of a reputation for having a nasty attitude. I think they'd make an awesome trophy!

Where are you heading, I was thinking of going out myself. Going out for boo but if I see one of the grizzs booom.

Bring your cameras lads! :D

I've been dealing with them for too many years, about 40 per season! The average size is about 6 1/2 foot, the biggest 10 1/2 foot, 33 years old! They're generally not aggressive and will depart if they get your wind. If around any outfitting camps, they will get conditioned to coming to shots too soon. Longest hibernating animal in existance, 6 to 7 months.

Getting gas, bullets, grub and my honda ready ... gonna go for a tour tomorrow ... I hope I see one ... and if it feels right and it's big enough in my opinion I'm going to take one! :D

The barren ground grizz has been seen here but it is a rare event and BM's brother is fortunate indeed to have had the opportunity to see and photograph one. I've lived here for 20 years and I think that only 3 have been seen in that time.

The barren ground grizzly is supposed to be the smallest of the sub-species (coastal, mountain, and barren ground) and I would be surprised if you found one much heavier than 600 pounds.

Ahhh, how much would you charge to guide a Kabluna:wave:?

BLOODY FOG has rolled in this morning and not lifted ... ... hopefully that'll change this afternoon soon as the wind seems to have shifted ... crossing my fingers. A friend of mine sent me these pics from Baker Lake, Nunavut a couple years ago ... barrenland grizz ... great pics!

It appears another bear is close by ... as a friend of mine had his tent frame tore up and destroyed out by the Diane River here ... which isn't far away ... I'm south right now for a wedding ... however, when I get home I'm going for another tour ... and shoooost me a bear hopefully ... ;) :)
