Please help me pick my next rifle, I would like it to be the controlled feed type, and in 270 cal.
Which one?
1. CZ 550
2.Ruger M77 Hawkeye
3. Winchester the new Model 70
4. is there another manufacture I missed?

Thanks

Yeah, Kimber 8400, if you're lucky to get a good one....

I'd go for the Ruger myself, or the CZ.

M70 or M77

If you can wait, I'd check out the new Winchester before I made my decision.

x2

If not, the Ruger M77MII or Hawkeye are great hunting rifles. Given a rack of new/newer production rifles, I'd reach for a M70 or M77 every time.

If you aren't stuck on new, Whynot's suggestion is a good one too.

Of the one's he's listed, which one is the most accurate, and trouble free out of the box? Ie, best odds of walking out of the store with a good rifle and not needing a bunch of fixes like stock relieve, bedding, trigger job, etc? Any thoughts on stock preference in these guns? Would the laminate give the best accuracy?

While my time on the range with the new Model 70 was limited to a few boxes of ammo, I was impressed and will definitely add one to my gun safe. I'm thinking a new .300WM would be perfect for Namibia next year......if they're available by then. I've got a couple pre '64 Model 70s and the new one did them proud!

i have a m77 mkII and wouldn't trade it or sell it, no matter what i use for ammo it will shoot 1 inch groups all day long, it's a 270

I have seen the new M70 and like it, that is the one I would choose from the rifles you mentioned. The Kimber is also a nice rig.
bigbull

The Rugers are really sweet rifles for the money -- but I wouldnt limit myself to just the Hawkeyes. dont rule out the M77 MKIIs: there are some nicer looking guns in that lineup for just a bit more money.
at this point all Ruger M77s come with the LC6 trigger so the only real differences are small cosmetic things like the laser etched logo on the floorplate and some slight stock geometry changes.

I'm sure the Win 70's will be nice rigs, but maybe not available for another year, as the US hasn't even got them on the shelves yet. They were supposed to be out in June there, and its now August and they haven't seen them yet...

So if you're looking for one for this season, get the Ruger or the CZ...

I believe the one thing that physically differentiates the M70, M77 and the M8400 from the CZ is the safety. If you want a three postion then the CZ is out. I like the three position as it allows easy field stripping for what it`s worth. All four would do good service.

Cheers

My Cz 550 's in 30/06 and 9.3x62 have a three position safety, 527 in .223 has a backwards two position. I believe the 550 magnum (.375,416,458 etc) models have a two position .
