Alright I should be getting my restricted back in the mail within the last two weeks and I've been eying up the TT-33's that are for sale on the Ellwood Epps site. I plan on making a trip up there so I'd like to have a few general questions answered before I make the long haul to buy it.

The ammunition is not common, Ellwood does sell it but it's the Luger variant and not the Tokarev, I saw on another site that these two types were interchangeable but I'd like to know that for sure before I go buying cases of this stuff. Also due to it not being common is there a chance that this ammunition would become harder and harder to get my hands on as time goes on? I wanted to stick to a 9mm calibre gun but I love everything WW2 and the Tokarev TT-33 is on the top of my list of things to buy in my lifetime.

One more question. I am not familiar with the sale and transfer of restricted firearms. Say I walk into the store and purchase the TT-33, I am under the assumption that I need to provide the gun club that I am affiliated with correct? If I am not registered with a gun club no sale right? Is there any other piece or pieces of information I am required to provide outside of what is stated above and my RPAL card?

Thanks for the help in advance. I know you guys answer questions like these a lot I'm just rather confused with a few things at the moment and I'd hate to come back from Epps empty handed.:runaway:

you should get club membership as soon as possible and with your new membership apply for ATT rightaway. Links to correct way of filling ATT application is among stickies on top of this forum - take your time reading it or you may accidentally get your ATT severely castrated. Paperwork takes nothing but time so do it earlier if you don't like waiting.

Ammo is not common? Lots of surplus and some commercial ammo is available... look around. 30 Luger is much more harder to find. Also, you can buy 9 mm Luger barel and have it in both calibers. If you find 9 mm mag, you would avoid occasional jams (but that's a bonus).

The Russian or other communist or excommunist countries did not use .30 luger in their Tokerev TT 33 style pistols. The TT33 used 7.62x25 Tokarev which is a hotter cartridge that is close to .30 or 7.63mm Mauser but maybe too powerful for 1896 Mauser pistols. A spare barrel can be purchased that allows you to shoot 9mm Luger(parabellum) in your Tokarev TT33 or clone.

There's cases of that stuff floating around...when I bought my first Tokarev (Norc 54-1) I bought several, and when I take my friends out shooting they can shoot as much as they like, unlike 9mm and .40 S$W

I bought two a Russian TT33 for my collection and a Chinese tt33 for shooting

I have bought both my TT-33 as well as the 7.62x25 ammo from Epps and have had no problem getting more ammo any time I've been in the store since. Just make sure you ask 7.62x25 Tokarev they usually stock it!

7.62 Tokarev might not be common in boxes made my modern manufacturers, but there are lots of sites at the top of this page which sell it extremely cheaply in military surplus form.

I would bet that it is probably the most inexpensive centerfire pistol cartridge that you can find in Canada today without a doubt.

The 7.63 Mauser cartridge is essentially the same dimension wise but is not as powerful as the Tokarev, so generally, it's safe to fire it in a Tokarev pistol but not the other way around. But I have really never seen 7.63 Mauser ammunition for sale anywhere while Tokarev stuff is not rare at all.

Pistols in this calibre are still used in a lot of countries by police or even military, so the ammo is still being produced and I really don't see it becoming especially hard to find anytime soon.
